Buzzer:
Never been to Italy on this route but I know plenty who have, Buzzer.
Followed Steve Cherrett over Monte Genevre once cos customs strike at Blanc how smart were we ! Till we got to the top only two oh oner’s going through came our turn I got fine for no fire extinguishers ! Steve had one on cab and one in the cab so he gave me one … No way I got fined !!!

Come on Tone. I’d need to look at the map…
Lautaret was the direct route, long concrete avalanche tunnel on the down side before you went up again to Genevre… Was it not Gap, Briancon was the long way round?
I have posted a foto of EAA 453S and the snows of Lautaret in the background before on the ASR thread.
Me and “Foden Tipper” know about Lautaret!
Hi all , hi Buzzer I’ve had an email asking about our bus trip to Italy and he’s wondering is it real or pie in the sky ? I don’t really know , I thought you’d be the best person to ask and organise it

Hi Jimmer must say we really ought to do it, would like to know who your fare paying passenger is you can PM me if you do not wish to declare who it is. Like all things organising a trip like this will mean a lot of ground work to get it right, best done by more than one person. Question is are those who were nodding there approval of such a nostalgic road trip really all up for it, one has to have some idea of the numbers who are genuinely interested so we know what we are dealing with, once we have established this figure we would know what size vehicle we required and what the cost would be. We could then find out where our stops would be and again the cost, something tells me a lot of running money would be needed and no Shell or DKV cards to subsidise this.
Well Jim I don’t mind helping with organisation side of things but don’t want to do it on me own, so if you have any ideas on who should be on a small committee to take this further then may be we can. Waiting with bated breath to see any one’s ideas on this, Buzzer.
PS. We need to establish when this would take place, and how long the trip should be. My time is my own now but not the same for every one so timing is important, look forward to any input with sensible contributions.

PSS. “We’re all going on a summer holiday”
Buzzer. Thanks very much for your imput and your offer of organising together with some help. I am not going to be much help as in my career I was used to being organized. People like MaggieD are far better equipped to do the job. I am a good go for and air would like to put my name down as a definate. Come on some of you organisers.Get your brains in gear and get to it Buzzer needs help. Regards Charlie
Thanks Charlie for your input, I do recall Richard said the lovely Angie would be on hand to book accommodation as and where necessary, so do hope that offer stands should we get a green light for this venture. On this vacation think more people would come forward if it looked a goer so will try and get it off the ground. Horry says he can organize ferries and thinks he can get a very good discount for the project. If Richard Greene cannot do the transport Steven has a good friend who also drives a coach for a local company and is frequently abroad, lets see what transpires in the near future so lets have your ideas forward please, cheers Buzzer.
Reference “The Jolly Boy’s Outing” Angela is still up for organising accommodation, and anything else that she can help with, so let’s start getting a list of interested parties to get a feel of whether we need a fleet of coaches,an old London Transport double decker,a 52 seater,24 seater,11 seater, Buzzer’s horses and carriage,or a tandem
I think we should decide where we are going to end up, Le Havre,Paris,lay-by at Samur(for GazIOW),Mont Cenis,Turin,Vicenza,Prato Railway Square,Salerno,Naples etc.etc.etc
Let’s have your ideas please on the back of a £50 note addressed to Mr.J Davies.
Angie says if you want it to be an all male trip she is quite happy to stay at home, she realises Charlie,Mappo, and Mick,(Trunker 08) may need medical assistance en route and Mappo asked about her wearing a Nurses outfit,so here she is getting ready for them
You make it sound do’able Buzzer I mentiond it to Rocky Cherrtett tonight he said he’d have a word with Richard over the weekend lets see what he comes back with, myself it all depends on how long a trip cos of work commitments ! So you better prepare for a one hit down just like old times
R Jimmer
Hi MaggieD you make me larf !!
Thanks for the input Richard, personally I think its good to have Angie on board as we all know the woman are nearly always right and usually very efficient with organizational skills.
To move forward I think a good plan is for any one who is truly interested in going on lets say a four day trip is for them to PM me then at least that way we will know what numbers we are dealing with. We should get this done before the new year and if like Richard says we know what transport size is needed and we can take this forward from there.
On destination my opinion is that we should aim to get to northern Italy as this is what most of us did in the years gone bye, this could be achieved within the four day window with out pushing too hard. As for Rome, Naples and Salerno we would need to go by plane so that’s best left for another day.
On a final note any one interested should make sure they have a valid passport before putting there name down as this process takes a long time nowadays.
Look forward to any interested parties Sending me a PM then I can update you all on the progress, cheers Buzzer.
Well John on a 4 day basis I’m in but me passport is out next July but I’m doing mine in January as its a quite time at the passport office, Milan sounds good carisio santhia ?
R Jimmer
speaking as an outsider ( oop norf ) i see the onset of an international " incident " looming . i fear that turning the southampton brotherhood loose over the water could have disastrous consequences for relations with our neighbours , not to mention of course possible outstanding arrest warrants for some of those among you . look on the bright side though , if you are banged up in a foreign jail pensions will build up nicely for your return . anon , derbyshire .
Hi all I have had a couple of PM’s already with interest in booking a slot on the proposed JBO, unfortunately my computer don’t want to send replies at the moment, I am not ignoring you and will update all on the progress as and when. Seems like a four day jolly is hitting favour as it’s not to long and we can achieve what we want in that time scale without costs spiralling out of control. So listen up don’t leave this on the back burner if you are interested let me know, it may happen and it may not but we must start some where. Looking forward to your response, cheers Buzzer.
Dear anon from oop norf…I don’t understand what you are insinuating.
Us suvernors are all respectable hardworking and honest men and outstanding
members of the trucking community… .
We will all ,well most of us be on our best behaviour, though I can’t speak for
Charlie and Trunker08 of course…
Hi Mappo an Charlie, my excuse for being up “norf” I came to “heducate” them oh dear!! not doing very well?
Re the trip I wont be able for this one, (know what I mean Tone) but I have my PSV drivers badge and a out of date PSV liecence, last used in 1968, ex Winchester depot, iff any use ile lend them out., ive kept up re news on here, and see a bus of sorts was found, re the loss of windows, would that not help re the hot climate!!
Best of luck re trip!!! oh dear iwait with bated breath!!! mick
Have had a few confirmations re the four day trip (JBO) should we get a go ahead but not nearly as many as I expected so if you are interested please PM me soonest. Mean while a picture of me cows having a munch when I put in a new bale this morning, a little muddy round the feeder cos of all the rain we have had but the rest of the field is ok, cheers Buzzer.
