Now this is going back a little, not liked by every one but certainly you could put your money on his shirt to get the job done, but who is he ? in the kitchen of the old house that we lived in on the A27 at Bursledon. Note the directors car of the day through the window in the garage , a Hillman Hunter if my memory serves me well which you could get a super single in the back of should it be required, cheers Buzzer.
I didn’t recognise Gibbo in that pic! I ran with him a few times when doing a bit for the Portsmouth mob that starts with P and always found him alright. Think he’s another expat in France now?
The old Hillman Hunter eh? Reminded me of a story… When I was a young lad of 20 I barrel rolled one of them coming out of the S bends between Park Gate and the Horse and Jockey, in the early hours , ended up IN Burridge tennis courts. The car didn’t have a straight panel on it and I was VERY lucky to walk away with cuts and bruises. I’d only borrowed the car and wasn’t insured… Ooops. Think my dear old dad had to bale me out on that one!
And like your story of the Viva Van and the herd of cattle , I’m sure that there must be many, many other stories of motorised mishaps worthy of posting on here. Wee Jock could probably have his own thread
Hi Balders, that reminds me of the time ( in my youth ) when I ’ borrowed ’
Dicky Downes Ford Anglia van for a joy ride.
Ended up in Pompey and crashed the van into some roadworks…well myself and two mates with
me did a runner, but were soon rounded up by the local Bill.
The three of us had to spend the night in custody and in the morning were transferred to Fareham
nick where I was bailed out by my old man.
Condition of bail was that I had to live with my Dad in Bridgemary, cos at the time I was living
rough…well on a small boat in Fareham Creek.
By Coincidence, one of my mates was the son of the owner of the establishment that you took over in Fareham.

Dickie Downs? That rings a bell… Didn’t he own a club??
Was the boat the same one that your younger brother was on? I know you mentioned that in a previous post and I recall Keith coming round to tell me that Dave had died when I was living in Swanwick Lane.
To cheer this up and keep it trucking… Keith parked his Davies Gobstopper outside and was shipping out for Italy. Hori will know what the reg number was and what Keith was wearing …It’s strange because at that time I was living half a mile away from Aire de Davies…and used to see all the units in the lay by…
Ever get a ticket JD??
well… Bring it on boys… All your stories…consuls, capris escorts zodiacs anglias… That’s just the fords… We can start a new thread if you want…I passed my car test in Cosham…in a vauxhall Cresta straight six…my Brother taught me… The handbrake start was the worst… Something nobody ever has mastered here in France.

Balders took my test in a Morris Cowley half ton van, which my dad bought new, my older sister had past her test and she told showed me what to do to pass the test not how to drive as I knew how to do that. Took it in Salisbury after the old man had just delivered some pigs to the market so it huffed a bit, but passed just 10 days after gaining a provisional license and still have not learnt proper according to the Boss.
On another note when driving a truck abroad my favourite trick was while waiting at traffic lights before they changed was to sound my horn loud and long and even though the lights were still red the cars used to charge off, great fun that have you ever done it ?
My God the sun has come out today just bin out with a pair of horses and must say it was quite pleasant, cheers JD.
Yes of course… You had to didn’t you. A Morris Cowley…? Because he had cows in the back And his name was Lee… Never mind, just me thinking…I’ve never been quite right.
This theme might bring out a few stories eh.
Just recalled a moment… I was an apprentice mechanic at Wickham Garage ( then J Daveys )… Aged 17’ just got my license … Out on a road test with a Ford Prefect. Stopped at the lights in Fareham High Street. Waiting to go and put her in first. Which was actually reverse in the 3 speed box. Another oops, reversed into the car behind…
Balders once went to the 600 group of Pollock and Brown to get some new sheets of galvanised tin for a garage roof I built at the old house. Went there in the company Marina van and loaded said tin on the roof ladder rails and secured them, on coming up through Bitterne (in those days the road split there, right for Bursledon and left for Thornhill with the Red Lion pub in the fork) any way just as you forked right there was a Zebra crossing and the prat in front of me did an emergency stop to let this old lady cross, I anchored up but the tin kept going. It grazed the bonnet on its dismount and hit the road just inches from the back of his shiny new car, boy was I relieved. Being a Gentleman he even helped me reload, bet he wished he had not as the tin was oiled, cheers Buzzer

Here’s another old pic I just found…F380 which I think was Silly Keith’s ? Must have been 1995 just before you very kindly gave me a new FH. M33 GEL.
There’ll be a few who recognise that loading bay…
Balderique. F380 bought from Mr Compton. Was metallic blue. As said, Gibbo has her 1st, then Steve Wells (whacker), then Shaunee from Coventry. Ged was the last pilot before it was sold to Cliff Luxton. Good old bus F380.
I knew you would put me straight Hori… Do you keep all that info in your head? Or have you been sitting up late at night for the past 30 years writing all the details down in a big ledger with a quill pen… If so , you really need to get out more
I know I did a couple of trips with Silly Keith’s so which one was that? Also I note the fan in the pic , wasn’t there something about a " fan club " around that time…
nice to see Shaunee Ged and Whacker mentioned… Cheers, Baldrique De France.
All derived from memory I am afraid Baldrick, I’m sure it will fade with age in the course of time. No time back then to write things down, I had to keep up washing em off. Silly Keith had L77 GEL. Everyone had fans in the window then, (It was the fashion, Matador Spears were ‘so last year’). I can remember you doing a few trips in a Merc demo (Eurocab?) It was a horrible metallic green and you needed a mini trampoline to reach the top bunk.
One thing I learnt from a tender age is never get on a ferry with Keith Mappo. Can remember catching a lift with him on the Southampton - Cherbourg boat Friday night disco time. He was going through a health kick stage and whilst waiting to board he consumed vitamin C tablets, cod liver oil, etc etc and said how it was good for you. Once on board I think the bar ran out of Newcastle Brown Ale before Calshot. His only claim was ‘it’s full of iron mush’.
Was just thinking that windscreen must have been a nightmare to keep clean, no good for mappo as all his flags would catch light.
PS. Balders can you remember another fad after the fans, think they were called “dream catchers” Reader would know as I think he started it.
Cheers Buzzer.

Hi Buzzer, yeah that’s a smart fire place ! What gave someone that idea to build that?? Maybe he had it appear in his living room, placed there by a p***ed off driver and he thought , I know what
