Just a quick note to thank everybody who came along to the Crem and then onto the club yesterday. John would have loved the whole day as it was just what he wanted. Plenty of laughs and stories and a few beers chucked in.
Many Thanks to you all for making the day a good send off.

First I must apologise for missing Smithys send of as unfortunately I had a prior engagement on that day, all I can say is I visited John a few occasions in the last couple of years and he always talked of the times gone bye and asked about the old boys he worked along side during his time on the road, I felt sorry for him sitting in his chair not being able to do much for himself but he never lost his ultra dry sense of humour, RIP Smithy you deserve it Buzzer.

Funny how them nicknames stick after all this time, there are lots of them and that’s how Buzzer came into being. all to do with Maureen Lipman when she did the BT adverts and the bird was called Buzzby and cos I was always on the phone got given that name, even had a Buzzby bird on the front of the marina service van, cheers Buzzer.

Hi Balders, no I never worked at Hills…although I did buy a caravan from them in 1972. My first marital abode.
I first met John in 1976 when I first start euro work…initially in a Big J then a non sleeper ERF.
I did indeed drive for Hayes of Fareham, firstly for Mick in his ex Middle East Marathon which I,ve previously posted
photos of on the Soton thread. We had a falling out then I drove for his brother. ( we did make up afterwards )
Now Colin Tiller…there,s a name I,ve not heard for years. We used to go to school together.
I don’t remember him driving for Mick, though he may have done at some time.
As for your comment regarding thatched wings and Latin log books, very funny…
Tony. I think its about time that all these nasty people stopped posting derogatory remarks about you. After all at your age you deserve a little respect and dignity.Only a year and a bit to go and you will join the ranks of the retired. Can’t wait eh? Regards Charlie.
Thanks for your kind words Charlie, what do you want ■■ Only joking mate.
Yeh can’t come soon enough to be honest.
The job,s changed beyond all recognition as we all know…the days of enjoying the
job are long long gone.
Perhaps you could give me some tips Charlie when time comes, on what a poor pensioner
Does with his time and maybe point me in the direction of the local Derby and Joan clubs.
Any one recognise this big fella, always in the old yard either getting a cheeky wash down on his truck or transhipping at certain times of the year. Plus he always had his big hand in the sweety jars, cheers Buzzer.

Well done Mappo his name was BIG Martin and I never saw any one argue with him, when Horry and ■■■■■■ went out on the lash with some of the drivers in town they always liked Martin to go with them, he was like an unpaid body guard, never had any agro when he was present, cheers JD.
What became of SCAC ? don’t see them around any more Buzzer.
