Buzzer:
It is with great sadness that I have been informed by his daughter in law that John “Animal” Smith has passed to that big truck stop in the sky last evening, I have visited him several times in the last couple of years and as you all know he let me post his pictures on TNUK he will be greatly missed. He was very much into his tractors and relative equipment in the later years being a regular at the Great Dorset steam fair until he could no longer do it. Funeral arrangement times will follow, RIP Smithy. Buzzer
So sorry to hear about John.I`ve known him for many years.A legend in his own lifetime.RIP John.Regards Charlie
Very sad indeed to hear about John
As Gazzer mentioned on the Soton thread Smithy was a good teacher in my
early days of euro work on how to enjoy the job.
He led me astray on more than one occasion.
One of the jobs great characters was John, will be sadly missed.
Sorry to hear the bad news of the passing of your friend and fellow Driver on here. All our thoughts are with his Family at this very difficult and sad time .
EU/UK…
It isnt our country any longer sadly. Run by and for the benefit of a none elected ■■■■■■■■■ They’d never get elected with their commie views so have this route to power and authority . Accounts never been audited for many years tells all you need to know - how long would your company get away with that■■? IMHO of course…
Once had a chat with a French Driver who said we do it the wrong way round… THEY dont say anything when these rules are proposed - accept them then IGNORE them when they come into force… We on the other hand moan scream and shout at the earlier stages - then roll over and abide by them.
Eminox stacks…
Classic indication as to to the downside of the above is on the pic -page 130 post by “pete359” post number 7164… Got to be a bloody nightmare to remove the black damage and keep the trailers looking good … Caps off to the guys involved …
Joe…
i was shunting in and out of nurseling ind estate the other day and saw a lot of davies going in and out and a fair few most likely heading home. was good to see them the scanias look well smart
Hi Buzzer been following your posts thought you might be interested in this photo as this is one of your old Scanias owned by my grampy at the time and also one of your old drivers A.K.A Victor Meldrew
Hi Jimbob742. Yes K92 MBK first owner from new was Ray Sampson of Newbury. He got that same time as Buzzer had K9 UPU from Southways so guessing 1992. Ray also had is own fridge (DIT11) would not have known the difference as it was all blue and white same as the others. buzzer bought the truck and trailer from Ray when he packed in continental. Don’t think we had it for long as the FH’s started emerging in Jan 1994.
A good guess for Victor Meldrew would be Graham Sandford. I know he kept it for a while as he popped into say hello a few years back now and he still had it. He used to tip and load the truck for Ray when he nipped home to get Mother to do the washing and make another weeks worth of sandwiches for him. Good old boy was Ray, always wore sleeveless t-shirts so he could get the caplis card in and out quicker at the peage. Time is money!
Hi Horry well done on your new Scanias they look the dogs, Welcome back to club Scania Graham is well still punching up and down the road, nothing changes there 66 now and still doing it Me and dad do a bit of holiday relief for him when we get a chance! Dad said he saw Ray about 7 years ago he was working for John Day Engineering hauling farm machinery with Dennis.
Here is a picture of Graham’s weapon of choice at the moment. This picture was taken just before he brought it
For any one who wishes to attend John “Animal” Smiths funeral it will take place on Friday 7th February at 1pm at Porchester Crematorium.
Smithy expressed a wish that you come as you are, work clothes if you like. He did not want any one to make a fuss which is typical of him for those who knew him, There will be a get together following the service at the Crofton Working Mens Club, all are welcome. Posted on behalf of his Son and Daughter in law, Buzzer.
Hi Andrew nice to see you are posting again but one thinks it would be nice while on your travels that should you come across a nice example from another operator, you could maybe snap that opportunity and post on here. You see there are far fewer British company’s going abroad nowadays so it would be nice to see who else is still at it. By the way I have now deposited 400 lbs of newly made sausages in the freezers so when you are having a break at Tracy Island let me know and I will dispatch a sample Regards JD.
