Saw one today, cant remember reg 100%, may have been R66, thought it didnt look right, then noticed it didnt have a sun visor
Now even I can explain the missing visor Kindle as it got blown off going through the tunnel on the train and as it is going to be replaced soon with a new Skoda and the fact a new one is about six hundred quid don’t think its going to get replaced.
Hi Ross no offence taken mate just good to reminisce about years gone by and what we did even though as Saviem stated he was only trying to impress the local talent but failed miserably in his attempt and I suspect we have all done similar things in the past and regretted it afterwards cheers Buzzer.
By the way Saviem when were you at Hartshorne as I had two Volvo’s converted to six leggers with a granning lift by them in 1983 and bought an F86 from them to get home when dropping one of the motors of, it was ex Goodson Lighting and plated at 28 to she had a £100 blow over paint job in our yard and I earnt £1100 the first week I used it but was painful up hills not bad for the £5oo quid I paid for it.

Hi Ross I don’t think Saviem will mind me saying both he and I are advancing in years and may be not so technical on motorbike tyres as yourself, as for me and my memory Avon route master two’s spring to mind. By the way my mate who had the altercation with the Tiger 100 still rides a bike to this day as does his wife, he was always very good on two wheels and I surpose that’s why he is still at it and on a British Triumph cheers Buzzer.
Hi Buzzer, I didn’t wish to appear pedantic, it’s just that with my own advancing years I’m often glad to get a little reminder or ‘shove in the right direction’ when a little correction was required. No offence meant!!
Ross.[/quote
Evening all, I`m so “advanced”, that I cannot find my spectacles most days, so have about 20 pairs scattered around the house and farm for immediate use!
bigr250, I always thought those, (lethal) tyres were Avons, but what you say is correct, when they let go…they let go!! Boy does it hurt!
Now if Buzzer will forgive me another non lorry memory…
Just on the outskirts of Wolverhampton was a “hump back” canal bridge, with an access road to the Toll Cottage running parallel to the lane over the bridge, but about 6ft below the carriageway. So us “village lads” used to blast down there, to have a little “competition”, of a summers evening.
We used to blast down to the bridge, take it at full bore, and then where you landed your back wheel, a chalk line was drawn, (by an admiring Beaufont Hair styled “lady”), and the next man would seek to better it! Great sport, quite harmless, and enjoyed no end by all participants…and by mid summer this had swelled to about thirty of us!..but sadly not by the locals.
So there I am, flat on the Eddie Dow tank of my BSA A10, the blare of the Goldies music to my ears…I hit the bridge at…(you could never believe those Smiths (jerky) chronometric speedos), (or the rev counters), felt the bike go “light”, as she became airborne, glanced down to the right , anticipating the admiring stares of my compatriots, (male, and hopefully female)…only to see two white, stern faces peering upwards from behind the windscreen of a (very) black Austin Westminster Police car…then I heard the bell ringing…S…!!!
And I was still in mid air…but of course when I landed, the velocity, the speed…and abject panic…I easily outran the Constabulary!
But returning to the village, I found most of my compatriots “cowering” in a barn, nervous that the Constabulary would find us!!! Boy were we innocent!
Sorry to go off your thread Buzzer, but I was reminded of this incident last night. A local pub has a “bikers night”, and situated on the A5 draws a lot of motorcycles. I was coming back from borrowing a trailer from a pal, and just pulled in for a pint, and a look at the bikes, (most of which do not look like motorcycles)! I was sitting on the front wheel of the Deere, when a very affluent looking Gentleman pulled in on an A10, all “done up”, as you might say. I commented, “nice bike those A10s”, the reply was, “this is a Rocket Gold Star”, “it a`int says I” He then walks off, I drain my pint, take back the glass, then go back to the Deere…and suddenly when climbing the steps realise, A10, or Rocket Gold Star…with my sciatica, I would never get my leg over the saddle!!!
Cheerio for now, Good Luck to one and all!
Buzzer, just seen your post, I sold that F86 to Phillip Goodson Lighting at Cannock. He used to make Lightshades, and “uprated” from a Ford Transit /Lynton artic. What a small World!!!
Hi Saviem on another note I remember well my mate who had a 1969 mini 1275 and myself being chased by the gabbers in a hot pursuit Hillman Husky, of course we got away on our journey home from the pub both of us well oiled, crossing a main road procedure was turn lights off no oncoming beams of light foot down straight across and away home, the chances we took eh ! cheers Buzzer.
PS just spent the last 7 hours washing and plaiting the horses ready for the New Forest show tomorrow and its going to be hot,
Here we are on our annual visit to the New Forest Show in the prejudging ring just before we went on our drive in the forest, too hot for suits and top hats only five entries this year may be a sign of the economic situation cheers Buzzer.
Went to see John (animal) Smith today and took him some of my new batch of sausages which I had made this week packed in three’s just how he likes them, then his carer arrived and as he put it she had come to " polish his ■■■■■■■■ " a weekly event so I left so not to embarrassed him or her, not that I think he would have cared if I stayed after all it is Smithy, cheers Buzzer.
Baldrick where have you got to aint heard a peep out of you in ages, hope all is well with you and your garden and I need an update so get on line and update me cheers JD.

£5100 and two days still to go cheers Buzzer
Well John, the old “88” is definitely alive and well.
VTA 872S appeared at truckfest Scotland last week in the same guise as that previous picture I posted. Plain white cab on a red chassis.
Am I right in saying that after Paul Perris it went to northern Ireland and was damaged in a barn fire?. I’m sure I read that somewhere, possibly on here, but I’m not trawling back through 170 odd pages.
Cheers

Hi Neil actually I had heard that rumour about VTA and the fire in Ireland but I thought it was a total write off cheers Buzzer.

Hi Jim beans have just started so you shall have some soon, Have you got the Scania kit yet ? cheers Buzzer.
Not yet John, gonna wait see what the paint jobs gonna look ! Then I’ll do some homework
The old F88 still looking good John I can just see her in the two tone blue ! I reckon they should paint behind that grill ! Looks better black I reckon !!!
R Jimmer
Cutting in here sorry, I thought something wasn’t right with the front of that f88! It’s the non painted area behind the grille! It would look great painted black good call jimski.
Out of interest, are there any pics of her in Davies colours anywhere at all?
How were these old girls to drive? Did they come out ok when comparing to a 141?
I’ve seen some really good looking f88s on the net, having always been a volvo fan I can also appreciate the 141 too, but I’d love an f88! Mind you I’d love an Hgv licence too!
It seemed to me from the pics I’ve seen that the 88’s had a relatively small sleeper area? I’ve been looking at pics of f7’s and they had huuuge sleeper compartments didn’t they?!
Cheers, harryvr6.
loved that 88 in davies coulers regards rowland

Hi Rowland and Harryvr6 VTA did look good in blue and white but I agree with Jimski would look the muts nuts in the old two tone blue and red chassis, when painting a truck attention to detail is every thing and in the old times the blokes in the paint shops we used had a very good eye and most were perfectionists, when I bought my first new globe trotter in 1986 it was painted in B.P.Rolls at Andover ,and I took the spare wheel to the shop two days after they got it they had virtually deconstructed it for painting but what a cracking job they did , expensive but worth every penny. Heres a picture of another F88 we owned ex Bowyers it came in there dull boring brown which was faded but was very sound in the cab then we transformed it as you can see. The trouble today is the cost of such a job and even the big companys opt for factory paint jobs and just add the sign writing of course there are still the owner drivers who spend a fortune just to stand out and be noticed but sad to say they are fewer today, but then again I started out that way and just grew as many others did, cheers Buzzer.
