Hi Buzzer, a`int seen anything like that in our Hay Fields!!! But must keep looking, (where are my specs)!!!

Nearly finished, only the big square bales to do tommorow, even put the hedge cutter on today,so all is well. Nice looking beasts you have there.

What has made you go for Scania? Dealer, price, driver acceptability, contract price, residuals?? Im so far away from lorrries now, I dont even find the modern ones interesting…never get tempted to drive one…but a round headlight F12 Globetrotter, well that would be different thing!

Planted 12acres of Sunflowers along the “Staffordshire Way”, look magnificent, but those sour arse Ramblers do not appreciate what I`ve done, co next time its Myscanthus…see if they can get through that!!

Cheerio for now.

Now your speaking my language Saviem.

Ross.

Hi Saviem hope you got your big bales done , kept me horses in last night as forecast to have thunder storms with a deluge but not a drop of rain in sight. As for the change to Scania which we have bought new in the past last ones early 90’s they were always ten grand more at the frount end but that has now narrowed a bit, we have had a lot of mechanical problems with the later Volvos and as you know down time costs and the agents are lethargic to say the least and no one today keeps any mass of spares , it is all JIT today. We have always bought our trucks that way you could get out with minimal fuss on a rainy day not like contract or leasing. Obviously you have a little bit of movement when buying 15 units but not as much as you might imagine, with Scania they always told you that savings on fuel would cover the extra you paid at the front end but I think they do have a better residual value end of life. ime told that next year one wont be able to buy a tri axle 44 ton Volvo or Scania under £100 grand plus the vodka and tonic which you do get back after a while,
As for the round headlight globe trotter that is ■■■ on wheels and if I never did the horses I would definitely have one and paint it in our old two tone blue and red chassis and it would be cheaper to run as well, any ways im’e of to me bed cheers Buzzer

Evening Buzzer, just amazes me how “dead leg”, a lot of the Dealers have become. As a young, (and very inexperienced), Commercial Vehicle salesman I can remember going round to the “Parts Department” to check if they had any bits for the operators that I was going to visit that day, that I could deliver for them. And it always helped in selling the next Atkinson, new, or used!

When I was at Hartshornes, the Midland Volvo Dealer, it was a “criminal” offence, not to check if someone who was a company client needed something, before you went out! Many is the time that I have loaded up my girlfriend, (now my wife), and delivered “bits”, on a “date”. Perhaps the lads of today…well, just do not “live” the industry!..(And they must miss a lot of enjoyment in their work).

My pal Chris Kelly, (Keltruck), and I worked together for many years, and share the same ideas about back up, perhaps that is why he is the worlds largest private owned Scania Dealership!!

The reason I`m all John Deere, is the back up I get from an enthusiastic local Dealer, Rea Valley Tractors, who acts first, to keep my men going. That is why in an area awash with cheap red Masseys, I run the best supported reliable Green and Yellows!

Was always the same in the West Country, where Leonard Parsons kept the highest penetration of Magirus Deutz, simply on back up. As did Peter Colby on the East Coast with those quriky Fiat things!!!

Been down at Soverign Horseboxes today, beautiful boxes, on premium chassis, but somehow, to this “simple lad”, its a lot of “bling” for an awfull lot of cash, so I came to the conclusion…too much bling…too little value… So…refurb the “old” Oakley, its like an old pair of slippers, comfortable, and always nice to wear!!!

Good luck, (Ithink I raised the Bollinger to the South, and your direction),

Cheerio for now.

Hi Will got any more pics of J II LLD as it was one of the older Globetrotters we bought new and the numbere were after my Mrs name we also had HI8 MJD which were my initials, after the three K’s we removed the reg numbers and retained them as DVLA got Greedy cheers Buzzer.

PS. Thanks Jimmer ur the best, cant wait for the Scania. Never did like wars anyway JD.

Got a picture of me driving it on the boat at Portsmouth, the ones that were for sale on the boat, will look for it…Tony ran C789 BPO for many years too. By the way i did know the history of J11 LLD as Tony had told me when he bought it.

At the Netley Marsh Steam Fair today Buzzer saw all these old triumph motor cycles was great to see em the I thought of you and Saviam and your reminiscing posts about your old Triumphs !

See this fella driving this old Austin he probably picked all up !!

Regards Jimmer

Hi Jim reminds me when I bought a 500 all ally tiger 100 triumph no. 429 EMU and my mate was trying to sort out the timing outside the Lamb Inn at Nomansland which was next door to the Chapel. It backfired through the carb and caught light and my mate was cussing like a gooden and tried to put it out with his old flying jacket trying to smother it, this would probably not mattered except it was on a Sunday at end of evensong and I don’t thing they appreciated the swearing, another Mary Hopkins moment although not to do with trucks. Later I used the motor to build a Triton JOT 5 E in a featherbed frame, cheers Buzzer.

Evening all, Jimski, Buzzer, I remember building my first Triton, 62 Bonneville motor, into a Featherbed frame, 5gallon alloy tank, rearsets, clip ons (as far down the forks as they could go), rebuilt wheels with Alloy rims, Twin Girlings with chrome springs, racing single seat, Gold Star silenced, (or lack of) pipes, and my (big, oh big), mistake, a set of “part worn” Avon Triangular racing tyres.

Now imagine the scene, there is our village square, Horse Trough in the centre, cycle and hardware shop on its left, big local pub on the right…

I enter, at 90degrees, far too fast, blip…vvvvvvavvvooooom, blip vavavooooooom, , down two gears, …see the local talent, (God, I needed glasses then as now)…beaufont hairstyles, stick out skirts…summer outfits…I`m going to impress them!!!

And I did… hard right, flop onto the triangular bit of the tyre, power on…rooooooar…whoosh…crash…as the Triton went through the plate glass window of the cycle shop, and I went, (at great velocity), through the twin wrought iron doors with plate glass inserts!!

Boy, did it hurt!!! and even more so as I contemplated my error of judgment on the long journey to Hospital…those Morris LDs were so slow, even with the bell ringing!!!

Oh and the “talent” just walked away!!!

Still love Triumph engines though!!!

Jimski that Volvo model is superb.

Cheerio for now.

Great story Saviem, I would have loved to see that on " You’ve been framed "

    1. I’ve made a complete twot of myself a number if times, as have most of us who’ve ridden bikes.

Ross.

PS, Avon race tyres were not the “triangulars’, I think your thinking of Dunlop KR93 & 94’s, even on track they would ‘drop’ into corners and catch the less experienced racers. The KR124’s that followed were a far more forgiving ‘rounded triangular’ profile & came out around 1976 & are still available today for classic racers in 18” sizes.

Hi Ross I don’t think Saviem will mind me saying both he and I are advancing in years and may be not so technical on motorbike tyres as yourself, as for me and my memory Avon route master two’s spring to mind. By the way my mate who had the altercation with the Tiger 100 still rides a bike to this day as does his wife, he was always very good on two wheels and I surpose that’s why he is still at it and on a British Triumph cheers Buzzer.

Here is C789 BPO When it was " Hot To Trot " & owned by Tony Bradfield ,in Morocco.

Not sure if this one has been on before!

Colin

Hi Buzzer, I didn’t wish to appear pedantic, it’s just that with my own advancing years I’m often glad to get a little reminder or ‘shove in the right direction’ when a little correction was required. No offence meant!!

Ross.

Saw one today, cant remember reg 100%, may have been R66, thought it didnt look right, then noticed it didnt have a sun visor
