Talking of solvol autosol I just finished a 12 hour stint cleaning my team show harness and I use that on the whitemetal fixings ,Mr Sheen on the patent leather and cherry blossom on the other leather. What else can you do on a day when its ■■■■■■■ down, its boring as you have to take it all to bits if you want to do it properly but looks good when done, cheers Buzzer.
PS. Moped eh Jimmer is it a NSU Quickly remember them.

KNS64 What a flash back seeing that pic of polish Ted I think I will have to go and have a lie down now, he is older in that shot than when I knew him as it had moved on from PBC to Cabmont by then ( Cables Montague ) pre British International my god how many names can one company have. How come you have a pic of Ted ? are you related cheers Buzzer.Buzzer Hi not related to Ted he was my foreman when I was a fitter at Cabmont/British Int . Started there from school and stayed to the end as a fitter then a driver. Me and Ted went on a few breakdowns abroad France Spain Portugal he could be a grumpy git but sometimes he was quite funny. Like you said how many names can one company have. I enjoyed working there and was always treated well. The Daf in the photo was my first truck THO 664T it was white and red when I had it.
Regards Kevin
Hi Kevin were you there when it was PBC ? there was a fitter there called Brian and I have seen him since as he and his Mrs drive horses as well as well as him there was another fitter there as well but cant recall his name may have been Maurice. Funny thing is Frank Allen was my immediate neighbour until about 5 years ago and still lives just down the road from me and he is 84 now but still looks spritely for his age, cheers Buzzer.
hi JD … Yes it was Maurice , the other fitter…
Hi Kevin, I remember you very well from PBC/Cabmont days… ( I’m Stu Mitchell ) I recognise the THO reg… Think I had that for a while after Dave Pope? Anyways, hope all good with you! Cheers, Balders.

Kevin I remember a young apprentice at PBC I was the one that turned an AEC Mandator GOW 78 L over comeing out of an old mill at the back of Taunton and Frank sent me back with Tinker who worked in the office to retrieve the situation and reload on another trailer which took 2 days, then I shipped out with it to Mazamet near Toulouse and boy was I excited as it was the farthest I had been but the motor seized up just before I got to the destination and they sacked me when I got back, cheers Buzzer.

You turned one over Buzzer? Re Tinker, what was his real name?? I remember GOW 78L… Took it to Volvic and loaded bottled water once…I think it took 5 months to get there. Seemed like it anyway!.. On the way back, I broke down ( theres a thread here Kevin… ) jacked up the cab and the matress that was across the lump forced the windscreen out… "Hello Tinker? Well It was like this…
No replacement windscreen for a Mandator in France so I drove back with a pair of goggles on… This should be on a PBC / Cabmont thread…Nip down the road JD and ask Frank to post…
Balders I would not have minded but when GOW went on her back in Taunton all the dirty black oil came out the engine and spoiled my brand new curtains that I had fitted for a bit of privacy. Frank was not that good at regular servicing only fixing what broke and he would not refund me either. Did you know he used to be me mother in laws coalman hence the PBC name ( Public Benefit Coal ) which if only they knew was not the case, Frank allegedly got done for fiddling the weight in the sacks, he used to put a big beach stone or two in the bottom when filling the sacks and then retrieve them when he tipped them out at the customers place and if any one said any thing about the big stones he told them they were to stop the empty sacks blowing of the back of the lorry, that’s the tale I heard anyway and can believe it as well mate, cheers Buzzer.

Buzzer That was not me I think that would have been Phil . When I started it had just changed to Cabmont . I have not seen Brian for about 6 months he was at Picador Motors one of the nicest chaps I ever worked with I did go horse riding with him a couple of times . Tinker’s name is Brian Palmer.
Baldrick Hi Iam sure you had THO and if i remember you had a smart little black 1275GT as well hope all is well with you
Cheers Kev
Keven you are right it was phil now you have rocked my memory bank, you are right about Brian what a pleasant fellow he is, cheers Buzzer
All this talk of Cabmont has woken me up as I started my illustrious career in road transport with that very company.I lasted six weeks
during which time my eyes were well and truly opened, which is ironic as I spent most of that time turning a blind one!
For my sins I was given an AEC Mandator CCR 352 K, this vehicle broke down on every trip I did bar none and culminated in my being summoned to Frank’s office to be told, ‘it’s the way you’re driving it.’
It all ended after arriving back at the yard one Friday afternoon with a broken n/side mirror. I was given a job for Birmingham market
first thing the following Monday. I duly arrived in the yard at 6am on the the Monday and was surprised to see that the mirror had not been replaced, not only that but the offside mirror was now broken also. I spent some 15 - 20 seconds staring at it and then thought
‘Sod this’, got my gear out and made my way back to the Isle of Wight as fast as I could.
All that said I had a great time on there as by and large the drivers were a good bunch. I particularly had a lot of laughs with Robin
Bartlett and Stu (Balders) Mitchell, Robin I’ve worked with many tmes over the years but somehow I’ve not seen Stu since '77. Good to see you on here Stu hope all is fine with you.

My cattle are back in there field after there TB test and look better for it and I think they are enjoying the little bit of grass that is there, ime just waiting for them to lose there winter coats and off to market with them, cheers Buzzer.
well 2 things really, I also had a breef spell on Cabmont, but mine was shorter than yours Gazzer,2weeks a long story, but at the end of the journey my money worked out at £44,so told Tim Allan that I didn’t think my bank could cope with that amount at any one time and left.
The other thing John a better polish for while metel is maguires,it’s brilliant,a bit more exspensive but worth it…

Hello Kev… All good here… am living in France now, as you probably gather from previous posts…
It 's interesting how stuff on here provokes memories… Picador Motors… Was it a Vauxhall agents ? I remember filling up there ( car , not truck ) many times. Is it still there?
I had forgotten that 1275… was the dogs ■■■■■■■■ in the day… I moved on to a 3 Litre Ghia Capri after ( **** knows how I afforded it on Franks wages… ) and do you remember Bob Courts Merc 220 SE… He pretended it had a car phone in it? He very kindly lent it to me one weekend and I discovered it was a normal BT ( or GPO ) handset with a cable going under the dash… Leading to nothing! Typical Emerton Court but a nice character I always thought… What you up to these days?

Well , Hello Gary Wright… ex Motorway Patrol Officer Hampshire Constabulary… By some strange quirk of memory i remember you very well… And particularly a conversation we had on T/T Viking Valiant…Robin was there too, and a couple of Barbours best … Was that really 1977■■? 20 years later , I spent a lot of time on the Isle of Wight , delivering LPG for Calor Gas…
I send you my best wishes mate… Are you still in touch with Robin? TTFN . Stu.
Balders are you sure you aint had more jobs than Mappo cos the way you keep saying who you have worked for I think it could be a close call and I think in fairness to TIR Tone we ought to have a head count to sort out who is king of the jobs, cheers Buzzer.

Hi every one inc Balders in the south of France, just thought I would update you on the veg plot as things are beginning to move a bit with the warmer weather but it does get chilly at night. Hand weeded the beetroot and carrots today took an hour and a half and my back is giving me grief a sign of old age. My French climbing beans have failed completely so I have now resorted to planting some more in pots the way I used to do it so now waiting for them to pop up and I will tranship them to the garden when ready.
How goes your garden Balders ? It would be nice to see a pic of your plot to see how you are fairing in the sunny climbs of the south of France, take some shots and post on here mate, cheerio for now yours G F Buzzer.
Balders (Stu)
You were one of the chosen ones to be let loose in my baby.
