Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 1)

Hi Balders,I remember Mick Madgwick, now there,s a name from the past.
I thought he was a Fareham lad and lived in or off of Gudgeheath lane.
The last time I saw Mick was 20 plus years ago in Lincoln Farm.
He was driving a van which I think he co owned with a mate of his.

Mick Madgwick… I thought was a Pompey Boy? My abiding memory of him was cooking baked beans in the cabin on TT… ■■? Or breaking his thumb after hitting a Kerb in Rouen. Scorey P will confirm… he was there with lump hammer
Ask him about Denis Dawson too…

Hi Balders, Madgewick is a name which is common in Pompy most are horsey people or farmers so you could well be right, as for Scorey P and the lump hammer I think he may have been presented with that in the early days at PBC either that or he knicked it from Polish Ted, a right miserable so and so who worked as a mechanic for Franky, I was going to say fitter but they bought very few new parts it was always mend it or get second hand. He would have needed it especially if you had to attempt a strip out of a tilt, you could really have done with cutting gear as there policy was if it broke weld it up, what a learning curve it was working for them in the early 70’s cheers JD.

Polish Ted… yes…trying to get trailer bulbs out of him was a real mission …" I gave you zum laarzt week " He really was a miserable **** Never saw him smile… … However , the story went that he was in the French resistance in the war? Scorey P might confirm that…

Chooks are here John… am told to keep them in for 4 days?? Then they wont wander…■■ :unamused: :unamused:

Balders your mum kept you in for the first five years of your life but it did not stop you wandering, cheers JD.

John, She should have kept him in for longer than that then he wouldn’t have led the poor chap on the right into so much trouble, seen here with his carer on the left. !

Balders, Do you think Polish Ted, if he was in the resistance knew that Yvette from Rene’s Cafe ? Cause she was quite fit in her day :unamused:

Regards
Richard

Richard don’t recognise the fella on the right unless it was you in your youth, the carer is a different kettle of fish though, cheers John

Sorry it’s Robin Bartlett I think Baldrick has covered a few miles with him !!
Regards
Richard

I worked with Robin when on for Transport Services, he,s quite a character.
He also drove for Skillbeech and Barbours.
I took over his job at Barbours when he left.

Here is a pic of DJO 666 Y on traction for Griffo, no Idea where it was taken but given the opportunity we used to opt for the long distance jobs as it was better for reloading, Longo would do Rome or Napoli in only half a day longer than the Milan jobs and of course so did I and Mappo but he ain’t up to it nowadays you can tell as all he talks about is retirement, cheers Buzzer .

Another favourite of mine when I owned it was this 141 ex Sparks from Glastonbury pictured here loading ■■■■ into a brand new TIP box in Germany, used to pick up the trailers in France and run in empty to load, I know because I was driving it at the time, cheers Buzzer.

That’s a cracker, a lick of blue paint and it could look like this. :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

That’s fine Mr TIR but you gonna lend me the 18 big ones to buy it out of your pension fund, and it would not be a lick of paint either if you do it do it proper Tone, cheers Buzzer.

That is an unusual tilt being single axle??

Buzzer…dunno about the 18 grand, but I could probably chip in with £ 18 :unamused: :unamused:

Jeremy…well spotted…that photo was taken in France.
It was a twin axle when I shipped out from the UK. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
I told the story some time ago on this thread mate.

I remember another trick when one had an brake actuator fail by way of inserting a French coin ( not sure what value ) and then tightening up hence stopping the escape of air, cheers Buzzer.

img_0414.jpgGood evening all but this post is for the benefit of Balders as it is a bit of a gardeners update, we have had about a week of quite pleasant weather and things are beginning to move now so I took some pics to show you whats occurring. As you know Balders I have a philosophy about gardening it grows or it dies , simple but effective and as you can see mate I have started to earth up me spuds just in case old " Jack Frost " comes round and bites them, cheers JD green fingers.
