Dartford tunnel , ADR and foreign lorry/driver!

Ok so was coming up to the tunnel ,just before it widens out into the multiple
Lanes for the toll booths .
There was our foreign friend , pulled over partially blocking the left lane :unamused:
Happily folding up his orange ADR plates before no doubt going through unescorted :imp: :open_mouth:

What a total zed bee

Hopefully he got caught on CCTV in the act . I would of happily shopped him myself to be honest , not really the place to stop and take his reg plate tho !

He might have just tipped and forgot to close his orange board up, and didn’t want the crap of getting a pull for going thru with it open.

Beat me to it.

That’s kind of you guys to give him the benefit of the doubt
I just assumed the worst , shame on me  :grimacing:

Well you were hanging him without a trial because he was from Europeland.

It will happen more and more once the toll booths get removed later this year. He could well of forgot to turn his plates around after he was unloaded?, ive done it a few times myself, but I’ve never ever stopped in a live lane to change them. I’ve just said to the booth op that im empty and forgot to change my plates, which they are normally fine about. But at the same time, ive seen countless, mainly foreign driver’s go straight through the tolls with plates showing without stopping to check if tjey need an ■■■■■■. When the crossing gaurds were in the blue hut they were able to see what was passing and able to act quickly. Now they are placed in the top corner, they cant see as much and act as quickly, so who knows what the hell ends up going through the pipe?.

Maybe he’s not as trusting as you Bald Bloke, but this has been going on for years, and not just by those from Euroland.

Years ago I was loading at a chemical plant near Horsham, for life off me I cant recall the company name, anyway so that you could access the site without going through the village that the site sat behind, they had built a new access road, to a main road that took you away from several villages(someone might even recognise it).

So Ive loaded and went to book off site, the security guards were watching a container lorry(on security cameras) that had just loaded, the driver had stopped at the top off the access road and was revering his plates and spaying out the placards/haz labels, I asked if he’d just tipped and they told me he’d just loaded, and was going to Felixstowe. Also they reckoned it was not the first time that they had seen it happen. They had a remmedy, phone number for tunnel control, and to inform the despatch department, who would ban that driver from site.

I dont know if the driver was stopped at the tunnel or banned from site, but you would have to but 2 and 2 together about his destination and his route,

I strolled up to tunnel control and went through under â– â– â– â– â– â– , why would you chance it :unamused: , and in the 15 years or so that I did ADR work, I only once got refused use off the tunnel  .

^^^^^^ BASF?

Prochem?

Novartis?

Maybe

PaulNowak:
Prochem?

Could be

m1cks:
Novartis?

Didnt think this one was in existance at the, well not in that name.

Used to do so many one roll into another

Trying to think of somewhere with its own access and the only other one I can think of is the flint group off the A29

This happens across the water when you sit waiting in the lanes to get on a ferry to the Uk. I have lost count of the times I have seen drivers get out and apply the ADR diamonds to the sides of their euroliner :open_mouth:

Good job we don’t have the right to bear arms in the uk. Maybe be you would like to shoot him. Guess you never driven on the wrong side of the road.

A29 thats the one, just had a look at the road atlas to try and refresh the old memory, I think its addressed at Slinfold but access off the A29. Honest though I aint done ADR for 10 years and god knows how long before that would have my last visit to that company

If it was BASF that I’m thinking of it was a brand new plant out in the sticks with a concrete purpose built road running into it. But like you it’ll be way over ten years since I last tipped there.

Sounds like a few folk need to get a life. Who the hell wants to stop off for adr check, queue and ■■■■■■. I always run through with plates up and don’t bother putting plates down till I stop for a break normally at Weatherby/Lymm.

That is because some products are only dangerous by sea and not road, or vice versa.

Yep think you’re on the right track there, as far as I can remember the diamonds/placards are for Sea journeys, and the orange plates are for journeys by road.

Well who wants to stop for tacho breaks traffic lights paying tolls etc, were would you draw the line, oh at stopping to get an ADR check before going through the tunnel, obviously :unamused: I dont know about now, but it only took a few minutes, and you never tended to wait too long for â– â– â– â– â– â– , could have changed in 10 years I suppose, but I doutb it :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Exactly. The orange board is all that’s needed for the majority of ADR loads by road. You don’t need the diamonds till you get on a ferry. I take them off again when I come back down to lorry
