For us who travel over /through it once in a blue moon is when it becomes more of a inconvenience having to mess about sorting out payment either before or after when currently all you have to do is pay at the booth, pass and forget.
Exactly.
Being from oop-north I had no idea about this until seeing the OP. Use Dartford once in a blue moon on the way to/from the Eurotunnel, so now I’d have to p#ss about finding a local shop or finding someway of going online (don’t have a smartphone)…forget it.
Just another reason not to leave Yorkshire…
You don’t need a smart phone, just a phone, you could even phone from home or send a letter and pre-book the crossing.

Thanks, I’ll try to remember before I arrive at the crossing.
As you said you only use it in a blue moon to go to or from the Euro Tunnel, I assume that its for holiday and you would book the Eurotunnel in advance as it’s cheaper than just turning up, so as you know well in advance you’re using the crossing it can be done in advance or done when you get home on the return journey.

No problem for regular users, no doubt, but for occasional travellers round the M25 it’s not perfect.
No it’s not perfect, but neither is the present system, I suppose the people who forget to pay the new charge will be the same people who now turn up at a booth without money, but at least with the new system they’ll only effect themselves not everybody queuing behind them whilst a booth is out of action.
