Danish trucks

Pretty much lived out there at the time. I did three months straight living in that old girl. Then about a month at a time with a long weekend in between when I came back off Christmas leave. I got one UK trip in almost a year.

It wasn’t as bad as it sounds, we had a very nice little depot with a laundry, a kitchen and showers. Peder even put a WiFi router in for us (imagine that in the UK). On the other hand we kept the place fairly tidy and treated it with respect.

Most of the work was DK/NL with some random German work. I was lucky to get to Sweden and Norway a few times and even got down to France and Belgium (all possible diary subjects).

The credit crunch was biting hard. The East European’s with German or even Dodgy Danish plates (known by the derogatory term, communists) did all the real distance work because they were so much cheaper.

I proud to say the Lithuanian lads who worked with us got the same rate as the British, German and local boys. That was Peder, a fantastic boss.

Nice one mate, i worked for a Swede for a while, they do know how to look after you. Month away doesnt sound bad at all to me, there again, i used to drive for TransAm, so a few months away is no problem.

No it wasn’t so bad. If I wanted to do International work again I would head straight back out to Scandinavia.

It makes me smile when I read about drivers on TNUK who want to do the trips but aren’t prepared to do the time away (which is most modern drivers if the truth be told). Or even worse, think sitting in Lubeck waiting for crummy ferry trailers for six months is a good screw. Hahaha

I’ll see what other pictures I’ve got tonight.

I think these are the last pictures of Danish Trucks that I have (and one of them might be Swedish, try and guess which one haha).

Happy times, I hope it picks up for them again one day…

Denmark is a great place to be, lovely people, i really enjoyed a year working there, this was my no: “12”… ‘Lilly’.

I used to meet a couple of British lads (father and son) in around 1999-2001 on the train who pulled for DFDS Purfleet, they used to double man to Padborg or somewhere near, they told me some stories about Stokholm drivers! Nice motor by the way, im very jelous!
I bet being a Danish firm and having Stokholm written on the truck doesnt go down too well in DK!

I wondered about that, not much love lost between the Swedes and the Danes. I think remember those lorries when I was out there.

There was a bloke down near Koskoro who put the names of the ports he had visited in the DK Merchant Navy on his Volvos. Obviously it ain’t him.

W

The blokes name is Lars Stokholm if i remember. I bet he got some stick at school!

That adds up. I like the way the Danes emphasise the home village or town they come from. Having Sdr Omme on my truck was more important than the coffee machine.

It’s important to me, our lot are going to get a livery change soon. I will be very sad if we lose the heritage of the lads who went before us…

Sentimental old crap I know, but that’s what you get when you’re proud of your job…

W

Who are you on for now mate?

HPH in Preston, a traditional British General Haulage firm, a nice crew.

I’m making every effort to make sure that our guys get valued like we were in DK. Hard work but believe it or not I’m getting there…

used to do a lot of sweden and norway, no issue with the name, the truck is a 460, full custom interior, (red/white), the reason i left was down to money, stokholm screws everyone, never repairs the trucks, wants you to overdrive, i was driving on other guys digi cards!!,
and has other dodgy crap going on, like an old uk stepframe still on uk plates, its not had an mot in 10 years, all fiddling danish tax,
all the trucks and most trailers are on lease, and i hate dsv work, i was taken on to do the music/ents work, not general,
also most danes have gone now, all new east european drivers, 1500 euro per month… !
as for DK, fab country to be in, people are genuine nice and don’t do the health and safety bulls**t,
i’ll go back if i can, just need a good job… !!, have an offer in oslo… thinking about that one, and … all the trucks have fridge/coffee machine and lockers on the side for food etc.

Nice one 13, yeah, i heard some dodgy things about them, its a shame really that theyre like that. Keep us posted if you get the Oslo job. Any more pics as gratefully received well.

thanx K530, will do, are you with TT ? i was with ST for many years, did a stint with FBN too, not the best exp tho,

you could retire there… can buy a reasonable house in the south (loland), for under 40K… with a bit of land,
just make sure you stock up on firewood… it gets a little cold in winter…!
