Daily Mail on a campaign

“Eyes glued to their phones, these truckers are gambling with people’s lives.
In just 90 minutes, no fewer than 17 were spotted illegally using mobiles on a busy motorway.
One even took both his hands off the wheel to fiddle with his phone. The shocking pictures of foreign-registered lorries were taken yesterday – just 24 hours after a Polish trucker was jailed for killing a family while distracted by his mobile.”

It’s all the foreigners fault!!!

Nothing new for them every article if it’s not about the Kardashians is about some immigrant or Muslim person/family.

That and the benefit scroungers & cheats AKA the disabled and sick, when benefit cheats are the minority in reality , if anyone is being cheated it’s those that are genuinely too sick to work being cheated off sick benefits, but that isn’t the type of story the daily fail want to publish

The biggest surprise being they didn’t tell us how much their houses were worth!

I’m not going click on the link as the Daily Fail are a parasitic “journalists”. But did they bother to count the number of car drivers doing exactly the same in the same time frame??

Or indeed the number of British trucks, Daily Mail, hateful xenophobic rag.

“Car drivers” You’re a car driver aswell you know  Why does every targeted campaign have some lorry driver crying his eyes out they aren’t targeting “car drivers”

It wasn’t a car that killed that family it was a foreign lorry driver playing Abbas greatest hits, daily mail is just highlighting how bad the problem is.

Kinda shocking the comments on here don’t slag the drivers actions but rather slag a newspaper for highlighting it.

Despite being a bit of a rag, there’s always a margin of truth in the Daily Mail. Truck driver or car driver - depending on which country you are travelling in, driving standards do vary from country to country. It’s not racist - it’s a fact.

A few days ago Cheshire police tweeted that they had issued 2118 tickets so far this year for using a mobile whilst driving, I’m not sure but I doubt they were all foreign truck drivers. The daily Mail could have easily stood there and photographed British trucks but that wouldn’t fit their agenda.

Only the terminally thick UK drivers don’t understand that using a mobile phone while driving is a no-no, but in their own countries it may not be an offence for foreign drivers. At the very least there needs to be a multi-lingual poster campaign at ports, service areas and delivery drivers’ waiting rooms using this tragic example to target foreign drivers.

All newspapers have an Agenda. The Guardian has an agenda. But nobody ever seems concerned with that. And as far as the BBC’s agenda goes - don’t even get me started on that one!

anybody and I mean anybody should have some sort of ban plus a hefty fine . Even hands free sap your concentration .

I think if they had quoted vehicles and not trucks it would have better and more balanced. Otherwise the average dumb daily wail reader will think the rules don’t really apply to them in their car.

People give out about the Guardians (and BBCs) agenda on here ALL. THE. TIME!

im quite often in sweden where its perfectly legal to use a mobile whilst driving, stuck you your ear with one hand is legal…they dont seem to have a bad reputation for carnage there…the worst thing about using a mobile driving nowadays is that the smartphone ones are a bollox to use compared to the older ush button ones where you could txt war and peace without really looking at the phone using one hand, and now you need to juggle with it with 2 hands looking at it at the same time…fact of life…mobile phones are here to stay, mobile phone drivers will always continue to use them whilst driving…nobody gives a toss about some random carnage that dont concern them.neither uk or flipflops give a monkeys anyway.peekaboo curtains and a double sim phone come into a league of their own in that aspect.ive more concentration on the road ahead whilst watching a dvd on the in dash screen that i have when looking at a satnav on the same screen.unless they penalise it to the same draconian degree that they do wth drin driving nowadays, then itl not make any difference, and eve at that, theres still plenty of drunk drivers nowadays…to the majority of the masses, then nobody gives a toss.

I think the point he’s making is that the problem isnt just with hgv drivers but drivers in general and that motorists will be worse percentage wise.
And as for slagging off the drivers actions, its been done plenty times on here in the past. The point is that they are focusing on one group of road users when it is a problem across the whole road network

Well I’ve lots to say on this topic, but will have to keep it short as I’m driving…

I’m not sure what point the mail is trying to make, other than selling more papers. As it’s not like the roads are any different today after all the news publicity yesterday. Still plenty of car drivers going about their business with there phone on their leg tapping away. They either don’t think it will happen to them or as they are not a hgv their responsibility is mitigated. I’m sure all the cyclists on the road agree!

Is it illegal to use a hand held mobile when driving in other EU countries

Is it illegal to use a hand held mobile when driving in other EU countries

It certainly is here in France for ALL drivers even cyclists.
It is illegal to hold the phone, install earpieces in the ears or wear headphones and even wear a Bluetooth earpiece.
The fine is 135 Euros and for the drivers, a reduction of 3 points from their licence, you can in fact lose your licence.

Sit outside any Amazon depot and watch the vans . :unamused:
