59 plate with 500,000kms on the clock and my unit is starting to get affected by this already. Seen it on mostly all 57 plates the bumpers just rust completely and it looks a state.
Anyway to stop this onslaught maybe some magic spray that i dont know about?
There is a spray about that is like body shultz, but is meant to be painted over. It goes on nice and thick, leaves a smooth Orange peel effect and then colour over it. If the whole bumper is done with it, it looks OK. It used to be used on Ford Escorts just in front of the rear wheel arches. You can get it in a spray can or a shults tin if you have a under-sealing gun.
It gives a bit of flex and stops stone chips etc. The bumpers on the DAF’s weren’t primed properly.

me dads got resprayed this time last year starting to rust again now anyway of stopping /slowing it down once its started??
Yep. Take them off and get them bead blasted to get rid of the rust. Once they’re shiny clean acid dip them then get them zinc coated and then paint them.

The product is usually referred as “Stone Chip”. Prepare the bumper by sanding down and removing all of the paint and rust prime the bumper and then cover with stone chip, it will leave an orange-peely surface but you can spray directly on-top.
The stone-chip is flexible and allows the paint to withstand the small stones that puncture the painted surface and so will reduce the potential to rust.
Schutz is spray-able under-seal and cannot be painted over.
my 10 plate xf105 ssc"s looking really crappy already on the front bumper, started rust spots 6mnths old also lost most of the paint on the wheel hubs and lots of the chasis nuts bolts and rivits if it belonged to me id be on at the dealer for a total chasis repaint.I started looking tatty 3 mnths old
Yes but i do find the bumpers on Premiums rather low and vulnerable to damage on high kerbs. Your Premium will probably be on its 3rd bumper to the DAF’s rusty 1st one after a couple of years IMO. So its down to cosmetic looks or cost.
The chassis and bumpers tend to suffer most on trucks that are left in factory finish. The paint doesn’t seem to be very good in wet countries. Same used to happen on the Eurotechs and Stars. A few months old and the rust started to show yet some of those that were fully painted in hauliers colours looked like new 10 yrs on.
