the moral of the story is don,t by a [zb] daf.
almost all our dafs have got this problem even the newer ones with painted bumpers. I had a 10 reg from new and the bumper was rusting within 2 or 3 months where the stone chips were. Ive suggested to the gaffer that he gets a clear wrap over the paint but hes not done it. Surely it would be cheaper than repainting every couple of years like he does.

You would’ve thought that DAF would’ve realised by now and replaced said bumper with a plastic oneNo good on construction work, at least a Metal one takes a knock without shattering!
Our 05 only really has rust where it’s been knocked on quarry work, but it was very well painted when new.
Taken Feb last year - Still the factory bumper, never been repainted or touched.
I don’t think that came out of the factory with that colour bumper as a standard option. If it did, the blue paint must be different somehow and keep the moisture out as we were told that this is the problem, the paint they use is porous.

Sorry, I realised I hadn’t made that clear after I posted it. What I meant was the truck was new in '05, obviously it’s first port of call after leaving the dealers was the body builders. The guys we use also paint them on the same site, so the chassis and bumper was painted in that blue, probably under a week old (The cab is still DAF white).
So now at over 7 year old its still the same bumper, and still looks like that, where as some it works with had the paint falling off at 12 months old.
I’m guessing we’re in the same place as Muckaway’s trucks, in that spending a little extra on the paint in the first place, has paid off now.
