DAF radios

Currently driving an XF which is on hire, and I’ve come across this problem before also on CF’s but never really took any notice of it, but…

Why is the radio reception on DAF’s a load of crap?

I listen to R2 most of the day, which as you know when the RDS kicks in, you should be able to hear just about in every part of the country. However, the reception on this XF can be particularly pants at times to the point where I can hardly hear anyhting at all, let alone R2.

Now I know some of you will say tell the hire company, and to a certain extent I’d agree, but as this unit is hired to a customer of the agency, then it’s not up to me to go complaining as it would probably not get done while they have it on hire anyhow.

Is this a common problem with DAF’s, and if so, is there a simple remedy?

I have had the radio out, (The standard DAF Blaupunkt.) and the aerial connection is snug, so is there anything else I can try?

Ken.

Common on DAF’s mate.

CD’s

If you want a good radio ask them for a Scania. Just means you have to put up with a Scania then… :grimacing:

I think you should acquire a taste for classical fm because it seems to me you can just about get this station anywhere even the moon!

Lose locals stations, lose national stations but you’ll always get classical fm guaranteed :grimacing:

We have 12 xfs and on everyone the radio is rubbish. We had a CF on hire last week it was the same :unamused:

Mine’s the same (XF105). When I’m in the UK I can only get classical FM. OK for those moments when I want to listen to odd random movements and extracts from popular classics I suppose

It won’t let me listen to Radio 4 for more than a couple of minutes though :unamused: zbking annoying.

 So true…

We got a dozen new XF’s last year they were delivered as 8 then another 4. The last 4 have a problem with the radios, always losing signal. The first 8 are fine. DAF say it’s an aerial problem and it’ll cost around £150 (each) to fix!

Well if you can get the radio out you could always fudge up your own mag mount antenna ■■ :grimacing:

I get the same problem; RDS is a PITA. I keep losing R2 (no hardship), yes I seem to always get Classic FM unfortunately, but worse than that is I get every variation of Heart FM :imp:

Get a stralis ken they have good radios.

Got a 95 xf, same problem, however a pure highway cures it, try one you’ll never go back to radio 2

A lot of them have an issue with the led roof lights, daf are aware and will send out new ones if you kick up enough fuss. I had mine done about 6 months ago.

For a hire motor Alex, it’s in good fettle for a 4 year old, but the radio is soooo annoying.

As for a Stralis, the radio is about the only good thing in one.

Ken.

the new truck i have driven this week has the same problem
but a mechanic has had a look at it and he says its ok

so theres nothing wrong with it

Just remembered another annoying fault; When using the cd player, one speaker cuts out. If I switch back to radio it comes back on again.

Ahh I thought it was just me who had this problem, I too have a daf but just can never get a decent signal

I sometimes feel like punching the blooming thing when I’m listening to a talk station and then I miss half the conversation because the radio decides to change the station

Just realised though it does have it’s plus points with the reception, like when Vanessa Fatz is on.

Ken.

Turn the headlights off, wont fuzz as much then. Not very practical advise for a night trunk driver i must add.
