With all these auto boxes you still have to give manual inputs and use your eyes for situations ahead to get the best out of them, you may as well be using a manual ! It begs the question , what the hell was wrong with a fuller box, a dam sight more reliable without all the electronic crap.
There is enough to worry about on todays congested roads that requires you to think more, crazy car drivers and cyclists for example. Playing tunes on a fuller or eaton while worrying about what other road users are doing is at least one less thing to have to worry about.
Simple, don’t use the clutch
Exactly!! Thats why i drive an auto. No clutch padal required.

I did it because the W reg 4345 we had was next for withdrawl and workshop didn’t want to spend money on mending the clutch brake…she changed brilliant
grabster:
Was out again today in a more rural setting, saturday double time eh! Reinforced my opinion on this box.
Went through all 12 gears many times.
And reverse ,whats that all about ? wouldnt fancy hitching up to a trailer or doing any fiddly 55 point turns
I drove an iveco eurotrekker for a while with a twin split eaton which was an absolute dream to drive, once i got used to it. Would much prefer to drive that than this one .
Should be 2 reverse gears, pick the slow one, I tried reversing into a really tight drop using the normal reverse gear and it was useless, the slow one was much better.
Maybe its just this particular vehicle, useing both reverse gears doesnt seem to make any difference at all, they both jump about. Its either stop or go.
A hill holder would be handy.
My 59 plate cf has a hill holder but there is a 1 second delay so you get rollback which makes it useless, even though you have no clutch you can use your throttle as a clutch to get bite against handbrake.
My hillholder was fine, a good couple of seconds I think, certainly long enough to get off brake and onto throttle.
Your reversing grabster sounds like you’re trying to rush it (like I did when I first passed tbh), you need to be a little more gentle with it and it’ll smoothly go where you want.
Honestly, I had no trouble whatsoever with the auto in my DAF CF 10 plate, running all sorts of weights and goods (including liquids).
I wouldn’t say the DAF is my truck of choice or the gearbox is my gearbox of choice, but if it’s a choice between that or a knockerbox, I’ll take the auto everyday of the week.
