DAF 95 Series

I’ve always had a soft spot for the old DAF’s, especially the old 95’s. Anybody ever driven the old 95’s, if so what were your thoughts? Photos would be welcome as well.

My Dad drove an early 95 for a short spell in 1990 for Brakes, wiring probs apart, he said the worst thing was tryin to keep that hairy interior clean!!! He did say that they never had the solid feel of the old 28/3300 predisesor, but were comfy and and warmer at night though!

Yeah, my dad had a 2800 and the 95, never had any problems with either as far as I know. He had a new Iveco Eurotech after the 95 and he seemed to prefer that.

Some of us have more of a soft spot for the 2800 / 3300 / 3600 Range
while there are some even older blokes who remember the 2600 with a passion

Some nice photos there wheel nut showing DAF through the years. This is a photo of my Dads 95 he had with gibbs, he had her for 5 years before his replacement.

Had a 2800ati a95 and a xf superspace all good trucks. the 95 went like ■■■■ off a shovel and the fold out bit on the steering wheel to write out your tacho on was a neat little touch.

I used to drive an early 95 series, F reg 350 Ati spacecab, moving to that from a leyland roadtrain was sheer luxury. With 350 horses under the bonnet ,it was quite a powerful motor back in 1990. Had a few problems with the ECAS, air suspension though,it occasionally had a mind of its own, all in all it was a good motor though .

A coupe my dad drove in the later 80’s, 90’s & 2001 - Downings Waste Paper (95 350 low roof & brand new), Burways (95 360 low roof & a few years old) & John Mann International (95 360 Space Cab & absolutely kanckered - clinging to it’s MOT!)

like the old 3600 spacecab, very nice indeed

we had a few at ryder when i was a mechanic.i thought they were the best trucks we had at the time, and really roomy.quite good to work on as well.

Had this from new, nice to drive, if only the bloody wiper linkage didn’t keep falling apart. :unamused:

Then moving on few years bought this

Got XF now must like Daf’s eh.

Bob.

Hello Chaps, My Dad drove both 2200/2600 units for Tiptree Union Haulage back in the early 70s, loved em both at the time, not suprising really when after havin 5 nights out a wk for 2 years in an LV 205 powered ERF (not one of ■■■■■■■ best!)!!! Driving position, all round visability and comfort were outa this world at the time. Even though the engine was a reworked Leyland 680, they used go well, not quite F88 performance, but well.

we had some of the very first 95s on e regs, these had the 310 engine in them, they were much better to drive than the 2800s we had before them, but not as reliable though, the main probs we had were front cab mountings, air leaks and gear linkage probs.but over the years we had loads of them with 310,330,&360 motors in them.we have just sold the last one which was a 6 wheeler 330 daycab on a k reg, this had been our garage motor for years after coming off trunk work with about 1.6 million ks on it.i took some pics off it before it was sold i will try and get them on here.

Some great comments and photos, thanks. I actually almost bought a P-reg 400 Super Space Cab 4x2 3 months ago but I was abroad and my dad was flying down to pick it up but had problems with insurance and as I wasn’t in the country it was more hastle than it was worth so had to let it go. To say I wasn’t pleased would be an under statement. I’m going to be on the look out again around spring next year for another one for the shows, would love to track down an old gibbs one but if not one to the same spec I can get done in their livery.

Love DAF’s of all descriptions.

Here’s a 95 I used to drive for a bloke:
