that harwich express 2300 drawbar must have the biggest sunroof ever…

It was just a rigid. I was tipping back to back into a Volvo rigid in Tottenham. Ironically it didn’t even have a sunroof on it and the deflector used to bang about like a craphouse door if the wind was up, the first night out I had in it I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I was being robbed !

ah yes now i see better.i was distracted by that large pop up sunroof

Great photos guys, thanks. Anybody know of any still running and working or show trucks??

the 95 is one of the few wagons i like in a day cab!!! sound strange dont i??

ive had few…

i used to love the original ssc p reg 95 i had what a fantastic truck miles ahead of the compition at the time in fact i was thinking yesterday i would love that truck back painted up and coupled up to a euroliner it would be the business. the n reg is the first daf i had that was a flying machine as was the ssc but the n reg had the wardrobe in it. now im back on the 04 reg daf cf and is ok for what i need it for.

Didn’t P2 EPW used to belong to Phil Wakelin - small time operator who ran the business mainly to provide a job for his son?? Phil used to breed horses down Leighton Buzzard way

Yes Mr MJM it was Phil Wakelins, then when he packed up he gave it to Steve (his son) then when he’d had enough of being o/d he asked me if i wanted to buy it. But i was happy with what i had at the time ( ex EST Daf ) so he sold it to my mate then went and worked for him. Then i bought it off my mate a bit later.

Here’s a photo of it brand new in Phils back garden.

WARTON FREIGHT IN BARKING STILL RUNNING AN ORIGINAL 95 SUPER SPACE CAB I BELIVE IT IS A 500BHP MODEL FITTED WITH A ■■■■■■■ RATHER THAN DAF ENGINE I THINK IT WAS OWNED FROM NEW BY A GUY CALLED TONY HUDSON AND WAS FEATURED IN TRUCKING MAGAZINE.
IT IS A 6X2 THAT WAS MODIFIED IN THE UK BY LEYLAND DAF AS I THINK THE SUPER SPACE WAS ONLY MADE AS A 4X2 IN THE ORIGINAL FORM AND THE ■■■■■■■ MODEL WAS ONLY LHD.

KR79, They are mate, i regulary see the big ■■■■■■■ powered Daf going in and out of Youngmans in Maldon, Essex, where Wartons recently opened another depot. Dont see many of the originals about now.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the old DAF’s, especially the old 95’s. Anybody ever driven the old 95’s, if so what were your thoughts? Photos would be welcome as well.

I had one of the 1st 95s in the country on an E plate, the 1st 6 months were a pain, the lorry was fine, but everytime I parked up everyone wanted a look at it, that was in the days when drivers still talked to each other  It was a good motor, the cab was huge for it’s time & it had a decent exhaust brake, the only bad thing I can remember was the stupid fabric type plastic used on the dash, one trip to the workshops & it was bolloxed forever.

My old truck…E55 WKJ, DAF 310

Had this after it was about a year old, bit different from the 2800 I had previously.
Loved the gearbox but the matress was a waste of space, had a better kip across the seats of some other trucks!!

When it came home it had two other “F” plate dafs with it but only this had the adjustable air suspension on a lead thingy!!

No…thats not me driving, I dont do facial hair!!   …in fact, nowadays I dont do hair at all!!

As it happens Rick, as well as the early 95s, RFS had some of the prototype XFs, they had the extended rear wall & the lower grille from the ■■■■■■■ engined 95s to disguise the extra height, until they went back to Daf to have the XF bits bolted on when the XF was launched, I remember sitting on a bay at Erith & one was on the next bay, I never saw one in full XF guise in RFS colours though, I think they had gone by that time?

The first artic i drove back in 1995 was a k reg 95 350, with the lift n twist zf gear box. It was a nice to drive and pulled well, but they always seemed to be lacking and a bit fraile in some areas, although this was addressed with the launch of the 95xf. Definately an emerging classic though.
