cyclists

I used to ride a bike all over and around London in my yoof and had a mirror. That mirror didn’t have loads of vibration and was really handy. They probably make 'em cheap and nasty nowadays.

I presume you’re also going to ban black (and all other dark-coloured) cars, then?

Only if they don’t come with lights fitted, and only at night. The main difference being that if someone doesn’t spot a dark coloured car and collides with it then the safety features (airbags etc) will mitigate most injuries. Someone collides with a cyclist in dark clothing and there’s only going to be one winner.

The “safety features” will protect the occupants of the vehicle. They won’t protect the pedestrian who crossed the road/cyclist who pulled out because they didn’t see the dark car.

I also note that there is also not a similar proposal to ban motorcyclists from wearing black leather clothing…

along with a sort of mot certificate

Perhaps you’d like to share the data[1] you have pertaining to the number of KSI-causing[2] collisions attributed to badly-maintained bicycles?

[1]Scientifically valid and independently reviewed, not just anecdotal stories
[2]KSI = Killed or Seriously Injured

Motorcyclists don’t go on pavements. Or go through red lights. Or do MOST of the idiotic things that Lycra wearing knobs do.

They also have the ability to get out of Dodge at the flick of a wrist.

Hate to admit it but really enjoyed the video. In fact have watched it several times and think I am becoming addicted. Should be shown on a monitor in every cycle shop in the country-head down, helmet on and too tight lycra-got what he deserves. And before anyone starts crying at the injustice yes I do ride a bike-but sensibly.

Darwinism at work. Only by weeding out the terminally stupid can the human species advance.

Sorry but I do not have any data nothing at all.I do have invoices though for the money I have spent on cameras ,side swipe warning, mirrors ,under run side bars, signs to warn cycles of my truck .This is not to mention future designs of tucks ie lower cabs glass doors this will all have to be paid for so I think there may be some data out there but seeing that in the north east we do not have a cycle problem I have not bothered to look for any data it was only an observation of mine when I went to buy the wife a new bike I did not notice a prevalence bright clothes ,bell, lights ect but plenty of black.

Collision on Magdalen Bridge causes delays at The Plain, and on Iffley and Cowley roads | Oxford Mail
I hope the truck was FORS registered.

Has anyone read that haha.

Lycra warrior rides into parked lorry. While they deal with it another comes off. Then another rides into a policeman haha. How do you not see them.

Yep. Pedestrians are a danger to cyclists, they should have yellow “keep clear” stickers on the posteriors. Mobility scooters should have underrun bars and the users of such should do a cyclist awareness course next time they’re parked up outside Wetherspoons.

volvo2:
Most that get killed are killed by their own stupidity by not knowing about trucks about believing they always are in the right and by not paying attention while listening to music as they ride how can they hear traffic with headphones on.
Rant over

Complete garbage. Nasty, ignorant rubbish. Headphones have never been implicated in a cyclist HGv fatality, and most of these are THE DRIVER’S fault. Your lies are an insult to the cyclist victims of drunk/drugged HGV drivers.

The lorry driver who killed cyclist Alan Neve was uninsured, had toilet rolls stacked against his windscreen, had no licence and had jumped a red light.

The lorry driver who killed Catrona Patel was drunk and fiddling with a mobile phone. He had been banned from driving 20 (twenty) times.

The lorry driver who killed Eilidh Cairns had faulty eyesight (the police didn’t even bother to discover this until the same driver killed another woman.)

The lorry driver who killed cyclist Brian Dorling turned across his path.

The lorry driver who killed cyclist Svetlana Tereschenko was in an unsafe lorry, failing to indicate and chatting on a mobile. The police decided to charge him with…nothing.

The lorry driver who killed cyclist Deep Lee failed to notice her and smashed into her from behind.

The lorry driver that killed cyclist Andrew McNicoll failed to notice him and side swiped him.

The lorry driver that killed cyclist Daniel Cox was in a truck which did not have the correct mirrors and whose driver had pulled into the ASL on a red light and was indicating in the opposite direction to which he turned.

So which fatalities did you mean?

Toilet rolls in the windscreen. Dreadful behaviour.

Must have had crap visibility.

Barry Meyer:

standard.co.uk/news/crime/ki … 50978.html

Meyer, from Walthamstow, had previously been banned from driving on five occasions and was uninsured and had no HGV licence at the time of the fatal collision.
Meyer’s view of Mr Neve, who had the right of way, was blocked by a toilet roll and sat-nav holder on his dashboard.

CCTV footage from Meyer’s lorry and other vehicles showed how he drove through a red light in Procter Street and stopped the lorry in a yellow box junction in High Holborn, before advancing through heavy traffic on to Mr Neve, running him over with the vehicle’s front and rear wheels.

Catriona Patel:

The Streatham Guardian reported that during the trial it was disclosed that Putz had previously been disqualified 20 times as well as three convictions for drink driving and three convictions for reckless driving. Dennis Putz started driving a large tipper truck that day still 1.5 times the legal drink drive limit. He was also using a mobile telephone as he hit Catriona.

Drunk, uninsured and unlicensed drivers kill cyclists and their colleagues lie about the dead victims and say it was their fault.

One as only to look back at the truck driver in Glasgow in a bin lorry who lied and cheated the system.
Then tragically innocent pedestrians life’s were taken away

The two cyclists in Cornwall doing lands end-John o groats for charity, killed by a LGV who I believe had not had sufficient rest, flouted regulations and should not have been behind the wheel.
Yet most of this forum at the time were up in arms about the cyclists choice of route.

Ironically it was only the cyclists who were legally allowed on the highway at the time, the truck driver certainly wasn’t.

Edit(for if I go into the depths of this forum to resurrect said thread)

I can not argue with any of the accidents and the faults of the truck driver on the other hand the cycles should for their own safety wear bright reflective clothes and keep clear of road vehicles.

There was nearly a collision between me, a cyclist and a learner this morning near Long Hanborough; Driving along minding my own business when a dopey learner comes around a blind bend overtaking said cyclist. Learner bird swerves back onto her side of the road, and narrowly misses the cyclist (although looking in my mirrors he was forced onto the verge).
No doubt if a collision had occured, the papers would say “a lorry was involved,” but what sort of “instructor” encourages a learner to overtake when they can’t see clearly ahead?
