Cyclist appeal for help

I’m passing this appeal on for a friend who’s son was injured in a hit and run on Friday;

'My son was riding south on the A224 towards Sevenoaks on the evening of Friday December 21 about 5.15. As he approached the junction outside the Rose and Crown other vehicles were waiting to cross the lane, one facing him turning right off the A224, and another on the left waiting to join it. He was about 10 metres from the car on the left when it pulled out onto the A224 and stopped, blocking the traffic lane. He was unable to pass behind it because of bollards in the centre of the side road, and, unable to stop in time, he was forced to attempt to pass in front of it. He hit the front wing of the car and was thrown over the bonnet, landing on the road on the south side. The driver immediately sped away to the north and it was the drivers of other vehicles in the vicinity who called the police and ambulance. The car was a small to medium sized hatchback, silver in colour, and the registration began LX02. Sadly none of the witnesses managed to get the rest of it.

He spent a day in hospital and has lost five teeth as a result of this. The cost of the dentistry will run to several thousand pounds which we would love to claim off the driver’s insurance. If anyone spots a car in the Sevenoaks area matching this description, which has recently acquired minor damage to the front end, then either myself or Sevenoaks police would be very interested to hear about it. Sevenoaks Police incident number 21/1233’

30 feet away and he couldn’t stop before sailing over the bonnet? Not having a go at cyclists, but he must have been pedalling like Hell :open_mouth:
Hope he feels better soon, though.

Shame about his teeth, I wore braces for years as a kid and was well ■■■■■■ off last year when I chipped my tooth with one of the buckles when pulling the curtains, so would hate to lose 5 teeth!!

Several thousand pounds? Is that private? Sounds a bit excessive.

I agree he must of been peddling like ■■■■■ It is winter and would of been dark, cyclists are vulnerable at the best of times, to be going so fast past a junction that’s busy with cars might not of been the best idea.

Still I hope he makes a speedy recovery. The car driver may of panicked not knowing quite what had happened and sped off. Chances are they’ll go to the police one way or another. The car could be narrowed down probably/maybe, can’t be that many small hatchbacks in that area in silver with the said registration and a dented front wing. Don’t expect a quick payout for the teeth either from the insurance company, that’s if you an find the car and find evidence to convict.

Dental work in Budapest, Hungary to an excellent standard will be half the uk price.
My last return flight was £44.

Agree with other posters, must have been going some not to be able to stop a bike in 10 mts.

Well regardless of fault or blame, all we want to do is is trace the driver and exchange insurance details. Yes the cyclist has 3rd party insurance! We are happy to let the police decide on any action based on the facts.

As cyclists, we are not looking for sympathy, just any help we can tracing a driver that drives off leaving an injured person lying in the road. As a trucker, I hoped that my fellow professional drivers would feel similarly.

I think peoples responses on here are disgusting.

It was a cycle this time with an adult on, might be a motorbike next time or a cycle with a child on.

Should not leave the scene of an accident and shouldn’t pull out infront of any vehicle, even a cyclist.

Yes you should be able to stop should anything happen, but let’s face it, we’d all be moving at walking pace, you have to be able to make certain assumptions or the country would grind to a halt.

If that is all you have to say, then I suggest you refrain from posting.

This is trucknet though, its a completely differant ball game. :unamused:
Joking aside, and im not going to play judge and jury, I hope you find the ■■■■ that drove off.

Thats about right for this place. Nice christmas spirit and all that :unamused:
I wonder if he’d say that if it was his mrs or kid involved that got on the recieving end of a hit & run driver??

It’s not excessive, I lost several teeth in a time trial along with a seriously mashed up face, (Cyclist mode: not my fault, the bloody great big Shell tanker shouldn’t have broken down there. Trucker mode: My fault, must look up every now and then), The costs been mounting over the years and I’m due for a a rather hefty bill when this bridge finally snaps. So far I’ve forked out over £3k not to mention the work I had done for ‘free’ on the NHS and at the Dental School.

I can relate Baz,
My mrs snapped off a cap a while back biting a piece of bloody sellotape FFS. 4 visits later all was well but it cost me nearlly 700 quid for one bridge!!
That was one expensive piece of sellotape.

The NHS dentists have 3 price bands, I think the maximum you have to pay is something like £300 (can’t remember to be exact), BUT you have to get all the work done in a certain time period (1 or 2 months, again I can’t remember). Thats what it is at the wife’s dentist. Still shocks me though how expensive it can be when all the costs are added up over a lengthy perdiod of time. £7k though? I’m no expert but that’s a lot of someone’s hard earned.

At 20 mph 30 feet is fractionally over one second! we all know there are a lot of suicidal cyclists around, but we can’t tar them all with the same brush or we are no better than the anti-truck brigade! to drive off after such a collision is the lowest of the low.

Do you really think he has a mrs!!

Can’t stop a pushbike in 10 metres.Are you sure ■■?

Yet again, another cyclist riding like an idiot, trying to do car speeds but for pushbike costs, who expects other roadusers to do his thinking for him.

Obviously it is you who is the idiot.

I’m with waynedl on this one…some of the comments on here are disgraceful. At the end of the day this was a young lad, going about his lawful business, who was brought off his bike by some imbecile who pulled out and blocked his path. It was only by the grace of God that this incident wasn’t a fatality. I’m sure if this involved any of you who have posted ridiculous comments on here (or your kids) you’d be calling for the car drivers head on a plate. FFS fellas lets get a grip, there could have been a family missing a son this christmas :open_mouth: This is one of the reasons that I don’t come on here that much anymore!! :frowning:

Actually no, he’s right. If the muppet couldn’t stop a pushbike in that gap he was either riding at Tour De France pace, or seriously not paying attention. Good money says he had headphones in…
