Is the working F88 there this year? I’ve decided to give it a miss this year; Going on holiday tomorrow and thefollowing week is Banbury Rally, so I thought I’d save a few quid.

Hi yes the F88 ADH was there in full glory with full load of timber !!have a nice holiday !

Just back from Gaydon , with the Steelboys, another great weekend, big thanks to Tom and the Team, what great investment in the top parking area we enjoyed this weekend, tarmac parking, new shower block of 9 en-suite showers, 10/10, even the sun came out!

A snap of my truck with Paul Edwards 112, what a classis road test pair they would make…bet the Volvo would win

A great show -

Another from Saturday night:

Could I put out a plea for all you people on TN to keep an eye on E Bay or similar for a built Esci Ford Transit model being offered. On Sunday 15 June at the Gaydon model show, between 15:15 and 15:40 somebody decided to help themselves to my Transit which was displayed on our club stand (Thurrock Model Truck Club) and walk out with it. They must have done it really quickly because in doing so they broke off a sideboard of a tilt trailer that was behind it. It was blue with the livery ‘P&S Group, Essex’ on it, had 2 orange beacons and an aerial on the roof, and a bench with a vice in the back. I’m guessing the thief may not be stupid enough to try to sell it on E Bay as it’s instantly recognisable, it may well be stripped of livery and repainted, which means it’s a modeller that has stolen it. It’s not the value of the model that is bothering me, it was a very personal model, and I have had it a very long time. If anybody has any info on it, they can contact me via PM.
Many thanks

Hope you get it back.

These people that steal something like that have no idea how much that means to the person that spent a lot of time and effort building the models.
Hope you get it back, anyone stealing, should have their hands chopped off.
Cheers Dave.

Chris Mooners ASTRAW rig…what a classic!

  That’d put me off the road if I saw that on my travels. Almost worth the entrance fee alone.

Another cracking good model show again, I thoroughly enjoyed looking around it. Some very friendly modellers if you asked anything. I am just appalled that someone would steal a model from any one there. I hope you get it back Dieselcowboy.

Just a few pictures I took over the weekend;

The chap standing by the two Turners ERF’s is Ian Moxon who drives for Mason Bros

Good pics

Well spotted. Kiwi gets everywhere.

Bobbyrab1:
I can’t comment on the shows at Rugby as I have only displayed models at Gaydon. I do agree with a few points Eddie made regarding the atmosphere in the hall. The first time I went down opened my eyes to another side of model building, there are guys who only build one model a year with the aim of winning prizes with it. This creates a tension which can be felt in the hall, in my opinion competition creates this. I thought model building was a hobby. There may well have been competition at Rugby but it may not have been as serious.

Regarding the model show, I think Ash and his team do a fantastic job but I bet it would be so much easier without the trophy ceremony. I personally prefer to display in the other side of the wall with the Road Transport Modelers, it is more relaxed and my older models are better suited there which leads to the points raised earlier being the way forward. I enjoy both the older lorries and also the more recent Steel boys motors, I fit in the 70’s and 80’s era so the way the show is at the moment is perfect for me.

Looking forward to another fantastic show both inside and out.

Just to bear out what Bobbyrab said about one model a year to win cups. One of Truck Model World’s regular contributor’s is complaining in the 1/24th club site that he took along his A series ERF model and cant understand how it never got a placing !!!.. Surely the TMW site was the one he should have voiced his complaint on.
Just goes to prove they don’t go to show only to WIN. Eddie.

I would think this model missed out on detail items, although it had a nice paint job, signwriting etc, I did notice the Susies were in the wrong order and maybe a bit more pipework needed to be added to catch the Judges eyes, they are very critical these days in choosing winners and one or two items not correct and a model loses out but then the modeller can’t understand why and thinks he’s been hard done by. I’ve never put my models in a competition or show, its not why I built them, I just couldn’t be bothered with the hassle, its bad enough just transporting them! I always used to say to modellers on the TMW Forum if you put your models on display or show them in picture form then you have to be ready for any criticism that might follow whether constructive or not, some though couldn’t take even the gentlest of remarks. I stopped using the Forum because I found new modellers in particular didn’t want to take any advice and wanted to shoot straight to competition winning models by buying the latest resin or photo etch detail sets, expensive decals and treble the price of what they paid for a kit in the first place instead of actually doing any research or proper modelling. I’ve just tried to get onto the TMW Forum but it seems it may be going through a change because of the new publishers, anyone know what is happening there!

Franky there have been quite a few of the folk that were on the site originally havny been able to get back on for something like 2 yrs they had bother with it and since then if you try to get back on it will not recognise you it tells you the PW is already in use so you change it and it then recognises your E-mail address and tells you that e-mail is already in use. But having said that Traplet and Peter knew the problems but nothing was ever done about it . Eddie.

Ive had a break from building truck models for about 3 years now and have just started to slowly get back into it. Frank is bang on about criticism. I tried to give a bit of constructive criticism on the TMW forum to a couple of people who have often had models in the magazine but there attitude was terrible. They seemed to know everything. Iam always open to comments and have learned a lot from constructive criticism but the click of people now just know best.

Yes its a shame because all people are doing is trying to improve a modellers skills by pointing them in another direction, there never is just one answer to most things in modelling but it seems some won’t except that a modeller with a few years experience may know what will work and what won’t, mainly because they have made the mistakes themselves and found a better way around a problem.
I know what you mean Eddie I was using the TMW Forum from the off but then went to sign in one day and had the problems you mention so that was it, I still looked in often but couldn’t participate which was frustrating when guys were asking for help especially with the older kits like the Bedford O Series which became quite popular for many to build but resulted in several questions as they did not have much knowledge of the actual vehicle because it was before their time. I suppose this is where older blokes like us came in handy and I would be the first to admit I know little about the modern stuff on the roads today.
Eventually I decided I’d had enough of trucks for the time being and started making some of the old military kits I had in a cupboard from the days when I used to model with my son. I’ll get back to doing ‘Lorries’ again as I’ve still got a few to get through but I’m not sure when. Cheers Franky.
