I found this on facebook a cracking photo of T Brady’s DAF 2600 they were probably the only haulier who ran these, not too sure how many they owned.

Bit of useless info “george”,the DAF is coupled to an Athersmith 30ft tandem axle Boden trailer,Athersmiths never had any 40 ft trailers or even 33ft ones IIRC.This shot would have been taken a couple of years or so after the Brady takeover. Cheers Dennis.

This DAF 2600 later on in life got re-painted into the light blue color of another Barrow in Furness haulage company which was Ken Surphlis, and finished its working life as the workshops shunter.

The picture of the Brady artic unit was taken by Peter Davies who incidentally owns the copyright to the image. It has been scanned from a magazine.

Whats the problem ? No one is charging for us to see the photo on the thread and did Peter Davies have the permission of T.Brady & Sons Ltd at the time he took the shot ? I guess not ! Why do we have to put up with this “petty nit picking” “Ooooo you don’t have permission to put that photo on the thread” Get a ■■■■■■■ life mate,it’s an nostalgic site doing no harm to anyone, and is Peter still alive ? No ? Good job I didn’t catch him round one of my motors on the M/way Services 30 or 40 years ago,he might not have liked my reaction ! So rev up and GTF off this thread ! Bewick.

some more of ken grahams pics

Bloody hell Dennis a bit harsh mate  but I know exactly what you mean, like I have said before on many occasions people take photos for the enjoyment of everyone not to take and then hide away.Oh and by the way Peter Davies is still around

Sorry John I really thought Peter had passed away, must have got mixed up with another photographer so I hope he will accept my “humblest” !! But I do get annoyed when the “odd” shot pops up on the thread occaisionally and some PC ■■■■ seizes on the “copyright” crack. If it hadn’t been for the many haulage firms that operated the many motors that the likes of Peter Davies and others photographed they wouldn’t have been able to “cash in” with their various books,I don’t recall the “authours” paying the various haulage companies a Royalty for the shots ! Well I never got anything anyhow,so once again, sorry,if I’ve ruffled any feathers but where’s the harm in putting any vintage shots up on the thread, from wherever, to stimulate the old “brain cells” of the Lads that owned and operated them and, more so,drove them.No one is making anything from putting them up on the thread ! Cheers Dennis.

    1. well said Dennis i am on the same lines as you and i will continue putting pics on and if they remove them its upto them, like i have said before if i pay the money to purchase the books then i should have the right to use the contents as i like.

OHH ffs who’s set dennis off again ?

We’ll never switch him off now we’re all in for it … :unamused:

. Dennis. Here,s another Tommy Benson one of the Bradys Kendal drivers but the only one with a big handlebar moustache (think they had at least 4. 2600 Dafs ) Frank

Nice shot Frank, pity it’s a bit grainy though ! I remember Tommy Benson when I was a Lad,his son went to the same school,I just remember him been called “benno” ! I believe Tommy went to work for Sea Wheel in Felixstowe,in their traffic office but his last motor at Brady’s was the Two peddle Beaver IIRC,do you agree mate ? Cheers Dennis.

Have you ever thought about a career in the diplomatic service? I agree with your view and what you are saying though Dennis. No doubt hauliers do get a bit annoyed when people take photos of their vehicles and sell them…

Some people should chill out, I suggest attending the Beer ‘n’ Bangers festival in the South Western Lake District http://www.beernbangers.com/ lots of locally brewed real ale and ■■■■■■■■■■ sausages.

How long would you give my chances as an Ambassador in,shall we say,a hot country “george” ? I’d get Re-called in the first week I guess !! Cheers Dennis.

I merely identified the origin of picture, who owns it and where it came from. Nothing else. Why on earth you have to come in from left field with all the above dribble I just do not know!

I try and assist the Nostalgia Forum by putting up pictures from the 50s and 60s for the benefit of all, these totaling over a 100 to date. This practice will now cease.

The above tirade is totally unnecessary and insulting. From now on I am staying away from posting images on the Nostalgia Forum.

Aye OK “Retriever” ! But why go to the trouble to “point” out who actually “owned” the so called copyright in a manner that suggested the guy who posted the shot was “out of order”,I care to bet that Peter Davies never asked the Brady’s for their permission to take the shot in the first place ? Most of us on the site couldn’t care less who took a particular shot,it’s nice to know of course, but it shouldn’t be the subject of Political Correctness surely ! If you are so thin skinned that you have “taken a powder” as a result of my comments so be it,no hard feelings on my part.If you do venture back onto the site have a “butchers” on the Bewick thread, nearly all the shots are mine, and those that aren’t have been freely posted by others so what is the problem,no one is “earning” from posting them, well I’m not,and I wouldn’t object to anyone using any of “my” Bewick Shots except of course if they were going to “earn” a few quid then I would expect a good “drink” at least, otherwise no harm done,Cheers Bewick.

Dennis. Yes I think your right Bob Mason from Kendal also had EEO 551 Only had a 25 gallon tank Bob used to get loads of Green shield stamps a big bonus in those.days I though 2 old pence a gallon was better Frank

There’s a name I’d forgot Frank,Bob Mason,I never really knew him though.I’d have thought they’d have put a bigger tank on that Comet than 25 gal,it isn’t enough to get to London without filling up !! Cheers Dennis.

I was not out to censure the poster of the Davies image, I was merely stating facts, nothing more. For you to go off the deep end like you did was totally unnecessary and frankly way, way over the top. Furthermore to be told “GTF of this thread” is utterly unacceptable.
