Hello.
A Huge Thankyou goes out to George King and hodgeturbo for there info on Johnston’s of Gilcrux, F Brown & Solway Aggregates.
George, as to your questions over Scotts of Maryport, Yes they still run a JCB Diggers (plus a glass carrier which they bought from the Port of Workington). But I sorry tell you that Scotts never ran a fish van.
P.S. George, the info on H & ME Fearon is also wrong. After seeing your post, I was talking to a mate of mine (Rob Fearon, His Dads cousin ran H & ME Fearon). Rob told me that when Harry Fearon was packing in, John Irving, a Fearon Driver, bought the company, later renaming it John Irving Transport.
Sorry to tell you that yourb info is wrong, but thanks all the same!
Hiya no I am certainly not wrong H & ME Fearon and John Irving are two seperate companies,:-
There were two separate companies called H & ME Fearon Ltd, one became Tyson H Burridge see here:-

Rob lives at Waterside, nr Waverton. Thanks for putting me on the right track, my brain wasn’t in the right gear!! Rob’s other brother is transport manager for WH Malcolm at Penrith (Lawrence). Rob drove for his brother many years ago. K & A Fearon run a Scania 4 Series 6x2 Tipper.

Anyone got any photos of Cherri Foams Lorries? I know they had a some sub - contracters working for them based in Silloth/Wigton area.
P.S. Anyone seen that old Cherri Foam trailer at a farm near Thoms. Armstrong at Blackdyke, Silloth. The farms just by the road side heading down the road (at the end of the road, you can get to Aspatria and Wigton)?

Hello.
Has anyone got some photos of Johnstons of Gilcrux’s Alibion Dropsiders? I know they used to go to a farm over in Scotland for peas and bring them back to Lakeland Peas of Maryport (in Carr’s old flour mill in down street). Walter Smith of Dearham (still alive) used to be one of the drivers bringing peas to Maryport.
Can anyone Help?

Here s summat fer all yer Marras te git yer grey matter wurkin .
In the late 1970 s there was a haulier near Abbeytown called W. A. Glencross, who ran Fiats, 7.5 tonner and a couple of 16 tonners on livestock. IIRC he also had a Magirus 4 wheeler which sometimes pulled a drawbar trailer. The colours were dark green and ( I think ) a white roof. Any photographs, or onfo, please. Another haulage company, an old - established one , was Jas. Pickthall & Son , from Cleator Moor. I know that Stephen Pickthall closed the family business a few years ago, but maybe someone has some photos to include on here, please. As Bewick has already mentioned some from his ramblings ( Perhaps not the BEST description, eh Dennis ■■ ) , a bit more persuasion might yield summat frae t Marras up yonder. Thanks.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

There yards at Rowrah. If I’m right, Pickthall’s come from Cleator Moor, but moved to Rowrah.

Hi ■■■■■■■■ gill,
Sorry, but Im unsure about the coach company youve named. No doubt someone will answer that one
There was a second business owned by the Pickthalls many years ago under the name of something like Cleator Moor Removals . IIRC the colours were the same , but this division had boxvans on furniture removals.
Any info from anyone, please ?
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
