Hi CWM, I also believe that CH’s previous depot was on Wigton Rd near to where the current Co-op superstore is now according to Colin B.
Cheers L.600.

Hi Leyland 600,
Thanks for the additional info. regarding Hughes & Beattie `s depots.

How about this for a compact tipper with a difference ?
Bearing the name of D Reed of Dalston , Carlisle , it was shining in the afternoon sunshine at the recent Carlisle Vintage Rally .
Surely there`s not many E.R.F. s 4 wheeler tippers with a sleeper extension , and looking as good as this !
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Another E.R.F. which was enjoying the sunshine at Carlisle Vintage Rally , was this one in the livery of well-established
R.J.Murray & Son , from nearby Longtown.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hello cattle wagon man
The R J Murray is a new one on the rally scene. It was restored about a year ago by Murrays.
It looks excelent. A very well restored lorry.
Kindest regards

CG, you’d better get out and buy June issue of Heritage Commercial. They’re selling a die cast green monster volvo for £2.99p. At first I thought it was the whole fleet but i was mistaken. :unamused: :unamused: Regards Kevmac. Ps be quick or you’ll be killed in the crush.

The Murray ERF isn’t an “A” Series,it is an earlier model and then IIRC there was another model in between, the one that had the air cleaner bowl “moulded” into the nearside wing, then the “A” series was launched in '72 IIRC.No doubt the ERF fans will put me straight, but thats as I recall things !! Cheers Bewick.

McBurney Transport have a depot in Penrith ■■■■■■■ I found this photo on their Facebook site and I hope that they don’t mind me posting it on here. Quite frankly it is one of the best photos of a lorry that I’ve ever seen!

I could never envisage a West ■■■■■■■■ haulier adopting such a hideous ( IMO ) livery as that one “george”,pass the bucket,I’m heaving !! Cheers Dennis.

Most of the vehicles have/had a Penrith telephone number on their cabs.

It has always intreagued me as to why Penrith was and is a hot bed of road transport, which it has been for many years and considering that the area has never had an industrial base to speak of ! Drivers probably account for the largest group of employees in the Penrith area.Cheers Bewick.

Hello georgeking
Where is McBurney’s depot in Penrith?

Agreed Bewick, the A series ERF did not come out until 1972/3 with numereous horizontal bars in the slatted grill fitted to a basic ERF LV cab shell also there was much more sound insulation on the bonnet covers. The ERF restored by Murrays was I,m sure opererated from new by themselves. Can anyone remember when R.J. Murray bought an AEC Regal Mk III coach chassis and had a cattle container built onto it. ? Registration details are :- LRM 665 a 9621 model Regal. ULW 5tons-2cwts-0lbs and first registered on 10th Sept 1952. The cattle container was permanently fixed to the chassis hence the high unladen weight. I remember seeing it at Wigton Auction Mart in the 1950,s. They also ran a number of Albion Chieftains the workhorse of North ■■■■■■■ and the South of Scotland.
