McBurney Transport have a depot in Penrith ■■■■■■■ I found this photo on their Facebook site and I hope that they don’t mind me posting it on here. Quite frankly it is one of the best photos of a lorry that I’ve ever seen!

Hello georgeking
Where is McBurney’s depot in Penrith?
Kindest regards
CG

Don’t tell him “george” or he will lay seige to their depot !!! Dennis.

Well Dennis C/G has not gone out of town for a while, of course confined to barracks comes to mind, Regards Larry.

Leyland600:
Agreed Bewick, the A series ERF did not come out until 1972/3 with numereous horizontal bars in the slatted grill fitted to a basic ERF LV cab shell also there was much more sound insulation on the bonnet covers. The ERF restored by Murrays was I,m sure opererated from new by themselves. Can anyone remember when R.J. Murray bought an AEC Regal Mk III coach chassis and had a cattle container built onto it. ? Registration details are :- LRM 665 a 9621 model Regal. ULW 5tons-2cwts-0lbs and first registered on 10th Sept 1952. The cattle container was permanently fixed to the chassis hence the high unladen weight. I remember seeing it at Wigton Auction Mart in the 1950,s. They also ran a number of Albion Chieftains the workhorse of North ■■■■■■■ and the South of Scotland.

Hiya L600,What was the model class that preceeded the introduction of the “A” Series ? It looked like an A series “but wasn’t” !! That Coach chassis motor of Murrays must have been a classy looking machine,I bet it could fly ! I wonder who built the cattle body,Hinds maybe ? Cheers Dennis.

Well Larry,if they let him out of his secure accomodation ( For demented “fast eddie” spotters) he probably couldn’t find his way to Penrith, unless it’s close to Wigton,Thursby or Silloth !!!Cheers Dennis.

awww c,mon i bet he,s got a top notch pratnav

And I bet he couldn’t find his “bum” with both hands !! Oh! and here’s a motor I would “chance my arm” and give him a start on !

Hi Bewick, I think it would be designated as a 64CUTU (6 cylinder, 4 wheel, ■■■■■■■■ Tractor Unit.) With regard to the AEC Regal with its low chassis hight but swept up over the back axle I think the container was probably built in house as was the custom then, this one had large wheelboxes within the container and I presume it had an AEC standard PSV 4 speed manual gearbox with offset underslung worm drive diff. There would have been an option to take this chassis with a 4 speed pre-selector gearbox coupled to a fluid flywheel however these were normal PSV specifications. ie standard London Transport specifications. I remember it had the classic AEC upright chrome radiator shell with dividing centre bar and the Regal script badge set at an angle on the off side of the grill. Perhaps Bobby Hind built the cab as it was coachbuilt.
Cheers , Leyland 600

Hi ■■■■■■■■ Gill, Here’s the H & E Trotter ERF photo’s i promised you age’s ago. I said there was 5 ERF’s but there’s 6 i forgot about the EC12, although this was only used by Kingstown Commercials and not for very long.

Another E.R.F. which was enjoying the sunshine at Carlisle Vintage Rally , was this one in the livery of well-established
R.J.Murray & Son , from nearby Longtown.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Anybody know who the original owner of the ■■■■■■■■ regd. A series ERF was?

The Murray ERF isn’t an “A” Series,it is an earlier model and then IIRC there was another model in between, the one that had the air cleaner bowl “moulded” into the nearside wing, then the “A” series was launched in '72 IIRC.No doubt the ERF fans will put me straight, but thats as I recall things !! Cheers Bewick.

Thanks for that Bewick, you clearly know more about ERFs than I thought I did ( but you’ve got to remember, I’m just a young boy compared to you  )

■■■■■■■■ Gill, I’ve just noticed your profile message, how the hell do you rate tanker drivers as heroes :open_mouth: ,I reckon lads who are getting their limbs blown off in Afghan are heroes, how does this equate to drivers delivering fuel to a garage forecourt exactly ■■? or am I missing something

Hello robroy
I am only saying they are heros because they do a dangerous job which if it wasn’t done would mean the British Economy would collapse.
Your right though, service men and women in Afghan are worth more that fuel tanker drivers and are more of a hero
Kindest regards

The only reason CG is supporting the Fuel tanker drivers and their outrageous demands is because he only has a ticket to ride a bike !! Bewick.
