I wouldnt have let them put all them flowers on my unit. The trailer i wouldnt be bothered about, it would cover up al the rust patches!
I like the D100 and the tidy load. How reliable was the ■■■■■■■ in it? (was it the V6 or the V8?)

Hiya Stevie the D1000 (the D100 would have been a gutless article for sure!!) had a ■■■■■■■ V8 180Bhp and the one I had never missed a beat! I once weighed in at the Dolly Blue works at Backbarrow at 20 ton gross and weighed out at 16 ton legal and then carried on to the shipyard in Barrow with the rest of my load from London!Cheers Dennis.
As I’m off work on hols for a bit I’ll have a bit of time to put some more photos of Bradys on. No boubt some of you lads might reconise some of the fella’s in the photos.
Looks like the brains of the operation

Excelent shots of the “Brady bunch” Steve well done you sure can dig them up!!! In the group shot I think it is Albert Coward shaking hands with the Young’n and it is Nobby Clarke stood next to him with the radio.Obviously it was at the old depot and before the “S” was hacked of the Sons by the Young’n as the Bigu’n was on the shot! What was the occaision? were Albert and Nobby retiring or was it for “long service”? They sure earned what ever it was they were being presented with! There doesn’t seem much on the blackboard! Maybe Glassey is taking down the order for bacon butties or something!! Its a good shot of Jackie at the opening of the new offices? Just as I remember him!! Dennis.
Glad you liked them Dennis. All the photos were borrowed from Bob Brady when my uncle worked for him. Why did young Bob drop the “s” off sons? I never like asking in case there was a family fall out. Any way more old Bradys again.
Couple of the octopus’s I’ve been told it could be Frank Sleddon on the back of this Octopus?
When Bradys had a depot (or more than likely a phone box!) in Rotterdam
Some Brady trailers
This was taken in Bradys old yard on Duke Street in Barrow its now a Travis Perkins
When Bradys had a Cabdury contract
Who remembers these rather colourful trailers!
These last lot look to be down at Northfleet

Superb shots Stevie especialy the Scammell 8 wheeler exiting the steel Works I’ve come out of there a few times on a Sunday morning with a Comet and 4-in-line loaded with 22 ton of signode strapping for the Abbey which we transhipped onto the Octopus and trailer! I’ve said my piece a long time ago to young Bob about the delition of the “S”! In my opinion it was a childish act as both Jack and the Big’un were equally responsible for the growth of the Brady outfit.I know it was a standing joke for many years that the Big’un was the “S” on the end of the title but believe me he was an integral part of the buisness if not as high a profile as Jack make no mistake!!Dennis.

Alas the childish acts put this company out of business. I am a Darwinist…
harry_gill:
hiya,
Howay lets have the story behind the toppled trailers, was it the wind.
thanks harry long retired.
Right ho “H” you masochist!! Toppled trailers you said well these next 3 shots I will put on are of a 26ft single axle that was dropped at Ambleside by one of our drivers that lived there. It was loaded with 16 ton of reels for Smith Bros. Whitehaven and we picked up the reels and put them on a 40footer and never damaged a reel!! The leg had sunk into a drain and those poxy little trailers just roll over and die!! Shortly after I sent both of the two 26footers we had aquired from the Mill to York trailers and used the two axles to make a 40Ft. and put a new bogie under the other chassis Bingo two cheap 40ft.Curtain siders.Dennis.Not only that “H” you and the missus could have been on you annual jolly and parked next to that trailer eating your fish and chips!!! Goodnight Vienna!! what a mess we would have found under the reels! We’d have got a claused signature defo when we tipped at Whitehaven!! Cheers Dennis.

Yeh I often wondered why it was dropped. As you say Jack was a good part of the buisness. I remember my dad telling us about one of Bradys driver (I think Bob Kershaw) telling either Bob or Jack that he could have picked up a good load of GLIDER ENGINES but didn’t have any skids/timbers so Bradys made sure Bob had some from then on.
Anyway more photos this time of the F88’s they had some in Athersmiths the first is outside Athersmiths warehouse in Barrow its now a restaurant and Wacky Warehouse (although it probably was when Athersmiths owned it!)
