Just thought I’d add some photos on one of my odd nights at home and break up the Brady/Bewick contest (only joking)
This was the sister to Brady’s FH owned by R.H.Holmes who my dad, grandad and uncle worked for.
These were the units my dad drove. D485 SRM was the only 4 wheeler FL Richard had and it was the best one. It was the 299hp engine with the 16speed box and it could fly. Its parked in A.A.Giggs yard at collumpton loaded with coreboard from Higher Kings paper mill for Bowater-Scott (sorry Kimberly-Clark). According to my dad he wasn’t the best sheeter and roper but it think these aint half bad. Although Holmes’ had good sheets made for the job. SRM ended up at Ashburners at Millom where it was written off.
Holmes’ had a few of these 6x2 FL and weren’t half as good as SRM and they were crap in the snow. This was taken at Bartletts of Bridgewater where Holmes’ loaded fruit juice.
This FL was driven by my grandad and was new to Roadferry pulling a Croppers of Kendal trailer. Behind is an FL10 driven by John Ireland (now on TDG) and behind him is the MAN F90 my dad ended up on.
This was the last unit my dad droven for Richard and it was the best on the fleet. I remember when he got it (I was about 6) and I couldn’t beleive how big it was compared the the FL10 at the time “the world couldn’t get any bigger!” as they say.
When I’m home I’ll have a route through for other photos. I’ve got a few Brady’s and thersmith ones as well.[/quot
Just a pitty you haven’t got a picture of Big Norman stood by his motor!!
Steve.

And I’m sure old Lefty won’t mind me putting this one on of his Scania seeing as he was the self appointed "Clown " of south ■■■■■■■■ drivers!!! The tractor is coupled to a 44ft “Tautliner” not a spurious “Curtainsider”. Bewick.
I’m sure if we took a photo of Norman Edis he’d ave ripped it up Steve! Bewick I’m sure Lol had kept them marker posts off that Scania on the Actros rigid he had on Mike Leylands. Do you remember these Cellophane trailers Brady’s used?
I remember this big Merc it used to pull the tank lowloader, Peter Clark drove it.
And I could be wrong but this could be the Scania he owned at Askam-in-Furness.
My dad had a drive of one of these ERF’s that Ray Steele had when my dad drove for Stephenson-Jones. These were new to Gibbs of Fraserburgh and had 240 Gardner’s in them. I remember the sound of them engines. As you can see they’re not up to the standard of Bewick/Brady motors unfortunatelly.
The Leyland belonged to Vickers Bros. of Dalton-in-Furness working out of Furness Brick. I think one of the son’s moved up to Penrith and ended up with a DAF 95 doing the same work.
Last of all two ERF’s owned but MTC. One is an E-Series and the other an EC which ran on low height suspension.
Some more Brady photos here from when Bradys used to be on Duke Street (where Travis Perkins is)
Also a photo of Athersmith’s Seddon with driver Bill Birkby and trailer make Graham Kenyon. I got this photo off Bill son Trevor who now drives a mixer
Also one of the F88 which were bought along with the Brady F88’s
Also a photo of one of the tilt trailers which Brady had.

JEO192.That is the only shot I have seen of 192 as I wasn’t into taking photos all them years ago !! Well done Dennis.

Better keep the ■■■■■■■■ thread going ! Here’s a shot of a new Volvo and new TAUTLINER ( driver-- well Lefty of course!).
Cheers Dennis. I got the photos of the octopus’ off Terry Danson at Ulverston, I dont know how he got them. I like the F12 did you have many of them, how did they compare to the F88’s some used to say the F12’s brakes weren’t as good as the F88’s. But saying that Volvo brakes werent up to much anyway.

It was an F10 Steve and would have been “Badge Engineered” by the fitters and Lefty !! Here’s a good one for you taken just about 41 years ago to the day . I’m parked outside J. T. Leylands (Tommy) warehouse with my first motor .It is loaded with 10 ton of Libby’s for London. Michael would still be up in Yellowknife , Canada, chasing Bears and Indian squaws through the woods with his brother Herbert!! Tommy’s W’house was on Shap rd. Kendal near where we lived and my younger brother used to help him tranship between his 3 motors he ran .An Albion clydesdale/a Commer and a Karrier bamtam.I can tell you more but you might get bored ! Dennis.

Do you remember Barnes and Nelson who were also based at Shap Road Kendal?
I like the photo Dennis. Heres of photo of my dad’s first truck at Bowaters also a D-Series Ford. What were the American mirrors like my dad’s didn’t have the option of them!
Just thought I would include a photo of our shunt motor (now and then). To be honest this is the best unit on the fleet especially as it has a 13 speed Fuller 'box in it (I’ve tried to drop it into my DAF before now). I remeber when this was new. It used to fly past the ERF my dad drove. Thats the MAN with a new Houghtons trailer taken to a show.
Bewicks old yard is visible just the other side of the railway line.
The DAF is the unit I drive and next to it is Lol’s Actros. As you can see we both keep hem clean

Yea I remember them well ! Ted nelson was the owner and he collapsed and died at the wheel of one of his cattle trucks on his way back from Wigton I believe. This was in the late 70s then Tony his son took over until they ceased in haulage in the 90s sometime. Bewick.

Same motor shot from behind it is coupled to one of the first tri-axles we bought ( Crane Fruehauf ) We then started taking delivery of our own spec Tasker tri-axles built at ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ didn’t buy any more Fruehaufs for10 years and only then because the bodybuilder had them in stock ! Bewick.
