Here you are Danny what are you going to couple up to this 60ft Bewick trombone ( its loded for Barrow as well ). Cheers Dennis.

Dennis, The Low Loader In the picture was also a trombone, Very usefull Did a lot of work for Vickers Shipbuilding Barrow with Submarine equipment for Faslane naval base Helensburgh. We Sometimes hired Atkinsons of Preston ATH trombone aswell. But we also hired some from a firm in Bawtry for a big job in Barrow taking 60 ft concrete piles from the docks to Barrow Gas Terminal and then 3 of us moved three 60ft x 13ft portacabins from British Gas at Heysham to British Gas Barrow, I remember the police bringing us via the A6 and took us the wrong way up the dual carrageway after Pine Lake as we where too big to get under the old railway bridge.

Yea he sure did and still does to this day !! he’s not fairing so well since he lost Kay his missus last year but I try cheering him up with cracks about when we worked together . I asked him about that sleeper cabbed Beaver but he couldn’t re-call it so I don’t think it was at Barrow cause Possy has a memory like an elephant !! I’m going to put a shot on of a trailer at Newby Bridge which I am thoroughly ashamed of so when I get to it i’ll bang it on !Cheers Dennis.

Trev_H:
Dennis,

Is that lay by on the road past Cookes about a mile before the lights in Milnthorpe? I used to think how peaceful it was there by the stream. A nice bit of countryside.

Dead right Trev ! somtimes the Deer herd would be down at the other side of the river and were a nice sight .Cheers Dennis.

Rgds,

David

Trust you to put the bubble in 5thwheel but if you saw where our yard was in the middle of the village you would have left it on the lay-by!!! but then again being an SOM top man you would have probably had a go and caused mayhem in Milnthorpe by getting dog-knotted at the traffic lights !! You couldn’t get it into the yard with a steerable bogie !! Cheers Bewick.

They stopped Bradys bringing waste paper into kimberley Clarks on flats incase it was rejected and had to be re-sheeted as they had no over head harness so the drivers could’nt go ontop of the load and roll the sheets out, Bloody Health and Safety.

Its paper on the trailer but it reminds me of bails of wool. I used to move some of it a few years ago. 6ft X 4ft X 4ft and when you knocked off the steel banding it opened out to nearly 20ft long.

Just thought I’d add some photos on one of my odd nights at home and break up the Brady/Bewick contest (only joking)
This was the sister to Brady’s FH owned by R.H.Holmes who my dad, grandad and uncle worked for.

These were the units my dad drove. D485 SRM was the only 4 wheeler FL Richard had and it was the best one. It was the 299hp engine with the 16speed box and it could fly. Its parked in A.A.Giggs yard at collumpton loaded with coreboard from Higher Kings paper mill for Bowater-Scott (sorry Kimberly-Clark  ). According to my dad he wasn’t the best sheeter and roper but it think these aint half bad. Although Holmes’ had good sheets made for the job. SRM ended up at Ashburners at Millom where it was written off.

Holmes’ had a few of these 6x2 FL and weren’t half as good as SRM and they were crap in the snow. This was taken at Bartletts of Bridgewater where Holmes’ loaded fruit juice.

This FL was driven by my grandad and was new to Roadferry pulling a Croppers of Kendal trailer. Behind is an FL10 driven by John Ireland (now on TDG) and behind him is the MAN F90 my dad ended up on.

This was the last unit my dad droven for Richard and it was the best on the fleet. I remember when he got it (I was about 6) and I couldn’t beleive how big it was compared the the FL10 at the time “the world couldn’t get any bigger!” as they say.

When I’m home I’ll have a route through for other photos. I’ve got a few Brady’s and thersmith ones as well.

ALL PHOTOS GREATLY WELCOME ON HERE LOVE THE BEWICK BRADY FORUM

Good to see my dad’s old F7 earlier on in the topic. That was the first unit he got on Holmes’ the previous firm he was at had an ERF with a 14 Litre 290 ■■■■■■■ in it and I loved it. I was about 2 year old when he started on Holmes’. He came up to the house one day in the F7 to pick us up. When I sat myself on the bonnet my dad fired it up. After growing up with a “Big Cam” ■■■■■■■ under the bonnet I wasn’t impressed with the F7 Volvo. I just shook my head and said “no good Dad. I want my ERF back” and I didn’t speak to him for months!
