Ste Burrow:
Cheers Dennis. I got the photos of the octopus’ off Terry Danson at Ulverston, I dont know how he got them. I like the F12 did you have many of them, how did they compare to the F88’s some used to say the F12’s brakes weren’t as good as the F88’s. But saying that Volvo brakes werent up to much anyway.
It was an F10 Steve and would have been “Badge Engineered” by the fitters and Lefty !! Here’s a good one for you taken just about 41 years ago to the day . I’m parked outside J. T. Leylands (Tommy) warehouse with my first motor .It is loaded with 10 ton of Libby’s for London. Michael would still be up in Yellowknife , Canada, chasing Bears and Indian squaws through the woods with his brother Herbert!! Tommy’s W’house was on Shap rd. Kendal near where we lived and my younger brother used to help him tranship between his 3 motors he ran .An Albion clydesdale/a Commer and a Karrier bamtam.I can tell you more but you might get bored ! Dennis.
bewick boy the state on the boiler suit you could have worked days and you could have had the boiler suit on a night change over sorry bewick boy cheers martyn.

Just thort I’d add to the thread with some M.E.Saunders photos. Not as smart or clean as Bewicks but a ■■■■■■■■ firm nn the less. They now have Merc Actros’, a few Volvos and a Scania 8 legger plus some 7.5 tonners. These are some older photos the first is of a Primrose conversion Commer
Then a Commer (Perkins powered judging by the single headlights although i could be wrong. I’m sure I’ll be corrected ) and a TK
Leylands now
Hi Steve,
Great pics, you are right about the Commer having a Perkins engine,I drove a Maxiload with the same cab,a bit wider chassis, that had TS3 two stroke engine. Looking forward to seeing your next offerings.
Cheers Dave.
And would that sleeper on the FL6 be a Unity conversion, from Bolton? I do recall that Volvo brought the FL6 to the UK market with no sleeper option at first
Also remember previously a pair of brand new sleeper-cabbed F6 rigids having to be shortened to tractors because they wouldn’t sell sleeper-cabbed F6 tractors. Not even to a big, all-Volvo fleet.

As far as I remember it was the real Mcoy ! we ran it out of Rochdale depot. Bewick.
I have just read in the Carlisle paper News & Star,–(newsandstar.co.uk/news),-- that Brown,s Transport of Cardewlees. Carlisle, are shutting up shop on the haulage side of the company. They will be keeping the storage side in operation. Fred Brown kicked off in the 1950,s. They were forced to about halve the fleet of about 70 motors in 2008, because of the trading difficulties. They have now decided that it is time to call it a day, insofar as their Haulage business is concerned. So the last 30+drivers, and a few fitters. are now to be added to the jobless total. Another one bites the Dust.
You have got to be a very sick Puppy Renegade putting that S***e on this thread !!! This is what the Marra’s and Gadgy’s want to see and further more that lot were never involved ! This is a load of Heavy Duty Workington rail which we delivered to Tilbury for export to a far flung outpost !! There was 20 x30ft lengths for 20 ton ! You wouldn’t have liked one of them on your toe !!Dennis.
