Oh dear Dennis, My whiskey stash will get the hammer if that happens Eh,
Regards Larry.
Lets bring this fine thread back to sanity eh! Now then, and I’m particularly aiming my request at our Senior Member frae’ Wigton ! Who has any gen on that old long gone firm of Hodgsons of Carlisle, I can just recall in late 68 early 69 that they ran a night trunk down to London Colney into Watts depot who I believe loaded them back up the way. I may be wrong but I seem to recall that they run Marchon loads down to the S’east but what else did they do and how many motors did they run? there is a nice shot of their ERF KV Steer on Brian Edgars site loaded with 45 gal drums. Cheers Bewick
These Dennis? Found on an E bay site, along with one of your pictures! Cracking shot that is Dennis, was that taken in Milnthorpe before you moved round by test station? Cheer’s Pete

Hiya Pete, what a nice shot of the Hodgson motor but obviously it is not an original fleet motor but a fine copy never the less ! I see that the chock rail advertises “Nightly to London” which bears out my recollection of their trunk motor/s running into J & W Watt’s depot in the late 60’s. That '71 b/w is at our first depot on the A6 at Beetham road Milnthorpe, we then moved into a much larger depot in the centre of the village opposite the Coach and Horses in Haverflatts Lane and then in 1976 we moved to the depot at the rear of Libbys and the MOT Station. We then used our old workshop and yard in the village to store pulp for mill for the next 4 years before we sold the site which was redeveloped into a Chemist and GP surgery as well as a block of flats. It had been a great workshop but it was really in the wrong place in later years, but I wished I could have picked it up and plonked it down in the K. Fell Depot as it was a better set up than the Fell shop. Cheers Dennis.

Hiya Norm, that sounded like a good paying round trip for Brian, he was one of the “old school” just like Curly they could get loaded from anywhere using the vast number of contacts they built up over the years. I think it might be Geoff Bell you are thinking of on Willow Holme estate and I believe Hodgsons were based on Greystone road, I could be wrong though. Cheers Dennis.
OK dennis,my memory sumtimes!!!“Brian had good contacts”,Dennis i went up to my Grandson"s christening at Silverdale few weeks ago, then had the Reception at Waters Edge Carnforth,i mentioned yr name Dennis Smith “Bewick” on Trucknet to John Shaw “Travellers Choice”
He knows you,as you know my Daughter married into the family…Then next day we had a drive past Henry Cook Mill,& went up the Lakes…Brought back old memories,Norman Croad,Torquay…
