Can I just ask if anyone has any photo’s of ■■■■ Grearson’s wagons from I think Distington. He was my mams cousin, and I can remember him calling at our house in Doncaster when he worked for Harold Wood before he bought his own. Thanks John G

CG , do yourself a favour , yesterday you called TN a waste of space , saying you were done , throwing in the towel etc .At least have the courage of your own convictions & see it through , instead of crawling back to thank people for your support & stir thing up .

Thank you very much for those photos they are great. We are going to a family do in a couple of weeks and I can now show these to some non believers in the family. Stayed at Premier inn at Howgate the other week can remember going in there as a kid in another relatives wagon when it was BRS. Thanks once again.

don"t think it"s ever ganna end.i wonder if oprey winfrey"s got any view"s on the matter, think I"ve got her phone number somewhere !!!
He’d be better off phoning Jeremy Kyle, what a load of ■■■■■■■ drivel plus he’s not even old enough to drive a motor let alone be able to offer any opinion remotely interesting to the “long in the tooth” members on here that have rolled more miles backwards at traffic lights than the young fella has driven forward so by his own suggestion he’s better off staying off this thread.

Will you & one or two others just behave yourself, or better still start a new thread where you can argue amongst youselves.

hodgeturbo these photos of the Grearson MAN tankers are some of the best I’ve seen on this thread, many thanks for sharing them with us. More please.
I also like your Armstrong’s Volvo photo.
A huge thanks to the guys who use Trucknet the way we old boys enjoy. Photos, stories, memories and the update concerning fellows we might have worked with, and remember. Jim.
This is a shot of one of 3 F88’s that we ran at Fells. The name stood for “Kirkby Fell” and he was an old established Milk collection haulier based in Grange-over-Sands which was then in the Furness district of Lancashire.I believe the firm started in the early 20’s and then got onto milk churn collections when the Chicargo based American firm of Libby McNeill & Libby opened their new factory at Milnthorpe and started buying milk from all the surrounding farms. In the late 40’s Capt A.B.Davy who had moved to Grange after the war bought K.Fells business and ran it alongside his Roberts Davy coal and coke factoring business which supplied coke to Barrow and Millom Iron works, and the works at Askam-in-Furness prior to this works closing after the war.In 1957 Capt Davy moved his operation to the rear of the Libby factory in Milnthorpe which was then in Westmorland. In 1974 the Furness area along with Westmorland became part of the new county of ■■■■■■■ so you could say that Fells have operated out of 3 counties during their time.Fells eventually stopped collecting milk in churns and ran a couple of Ergo Leyland Comet tankers on bulk collection then in June '76 when Bewick Transport took Fells over the MMB bought the two tankers and the drivers went with them to the MMB.Cheers Bewick.

Hi Bewick, your account of Fells milk operations etc are very interesting, there were lots of smaller hauliers engaged in milk churn collection way back then, also the setting up of Libby’s operations was interesting. Happy days eh.

There were a number of hauliers from around the wide area collected milk for Libbys and what milk they didn’t use in the factory was sent down to Leeds and Wakefield in 4 wheeler tankers of which Fells ran a number, they were Seddons and the odd ERF.In the early days the tins of evap milk were shipped out on BR as they had a siding right into the factory off the main line but as Road transport got into it’s stride after the war more and more went by road although they were still shipping some on rail in '69 when I started running out of Libbys with my D1000.I eventually bought the old goods yard off BR Property Board with the last use being to bring in rail Tar tanks when the M6 was black topped then it was transhipped onto a road tanker to run up onto the M6 site.It was reckoned that when the job was completed there was half a tank of tar left so it was just dumped in a hole in the yard so every hot summer it bubbled up to the surface,we used to throw shilla onto it ! then I put some Portacabin offices over the spot which hid it.Happy Days ! Cheers Bewick.
A great man R.I.P.

Great memories of this company.
Are you ex Burnholme yourself? I do know rhat Buycrider (who hasn’t been on here for a while) is ex.Burnholme.
I remember the first brand new motor they bought was a 1983 Y plate 290E Sed Atk
I bought it myself as a non runner for spares about 1995, I was told the engine was siezed. We got the engine running by towing it all around Silloth Airfield and sold the engine for export for more than twice what I bought the full truck for.
