Hi thanks for the reply hodgeturbo . Eddie.

Just heard that Ted Studholme from Beckfoot near Silloth has died. Ted used to have his own tippers in the 60s, packed the o/driver game in and went to work for CRS from Glasgow and Prudoe (I think) as an outbased driver. He had a variety of Atkis, ERFs, and Seddons parked outside his house during the 70s, all expertly and neatly roped and sheeted, his last motors were a MAN and a 3300 DAF in the 80s.
One of the last of the genuine and REAL drivers.
I used to meet him occasionally down the road and had a lot of respect for him as a young new driver. The last time I saw him was at Cockermouth car boot sale about 7yrs ago, he was struggling around on sticks, but it didn’t stop him getting about  last conversation I had with him then was telling him all the crash boxes had gone for Automatics he just tutted and shook his head
RIP Ted.

IIRC there was a cattle haulier called Harry Bragg that came from Beckfoot, well in the '50’s when I were a lad,he had an new LAD Comet IIRC,probably L600 can confirm  Cheers Bewick.

Hi Bewick. KAO 59, Chassis No 501773 Leyland Beaver ULW 4t-15cwt, first registered 01/05/50 This was Harry Braggs Beaver supplied 3 months before Jake Strong’s KAO 346 , Chassis No 502467 ULW 4t-10cwt frst registered 01/08/50. I remember them both very well standing together in Wigton Auction one painted blue and red and the other green with black mudguards. Both wagons had Bluemells Blue Spot fog lamps fitted which had a blue bullseye lens in the middle of the main lens. I cannot recall Harry having a LAD Comet although he probably did and then he ended up with an Albion Super Six Chieftain. Incidently Beckfoot’ s other Leyland operator Ted Studholme who had a mouth organ front Comet tipper and later a LAD model on lime spreading etc has just died aged about 84, his death announcement in the ■■■■■■■■■■ News yesterday. My mate from Well Rash who offered information the other day is Jake’s nephew.
Cheers,
Leyland 600

I remember Harry Bragg and his Dad travelling together in a Leyland in the 60s/70s, I was just a kid so they were both looked old guys to me and I couldn’t tell which was the Dad and which was the son.

Hi Robroy, I had forgotten about his father and yes you are right you could not tell who was the eldest !!
Leyland 600

Hiya Leyland 600, I’m impressed with your level of knowledge on the Bragg Leylands :sunglasses: going as far as chassis numbers. just curious as to how you know all this stuff.

Robroy , I have crystal ball that can see into the past, unfortunately it doesn’t look forward and look to the future and see what next weeks lottery numbers are. !!! Seriously I copied the details of wagons I knew County Council Registration Ledgers in the County Archives section a few years ago, an amazing experience as you look down the lists at various vehicles registration numbers or owners names which jog your memory and can remember seeing them on the streets around our area. Principaly I tried to record all the lorries and buses over 2 1/2tons unladen weight but was really interested in the heavier Albions, Leylands, AECs, ERFs and Fodens. from 1949 to about 1954. Perhaps I will find time to add to the lists sometime in the future.

Good one Gerald I was wondering as well how you could reel them of like that. I actually wondered if you had maybe had got them off dealers records. Nice to have something like that to look back on. Eddie.

You are a veritable mine of information L600  Well I wasn’t far off the mark about Harry Bragg’s LAD motor  ,the Beaver would be before my time eh!,Question, how long did Jake operate from Ireby prior to ADB buying him out ? I think Jake lived in the house opposite the garage which William and Mary then would move into.Where did Jake move away to when he sold up,“Costa del Silloth” maybe, only joking! Cheers Bewick.

Hi Eddie, Yes it is good to be able to look back at these records especially if a certain topic crops up here on TNUK, mind you when I started initially it was just my own interest but has developed through queries on the internet and in conversation with likeminded folk at rallies etc. I was fortunate that ■■■■■■■ CC AO & RM retained their records prior to 1974 as have Carlisle City Council HH. It was very obvious studying the records who the main dealers were, County Garage for Ford & AEC, Milburn Motors, Leyland, Albion, Scammell, County Motors,(Eden Commercials) ERF & Guy, they also had block registrations amounting to about 20 or 25 per month of Ferguson tractors at that time. SMT for Bedfords and MacKenzies for Commers. As for the many Leyland and Albions registered in ■■■■■■■ by Milburns they would have had a good many in Dumfries and Galloway. In reverse Gateside Commercials in Dumfries sold a lot of Dodges down our way and had a garage in Carlisle at one time. That was in the good old days eh !!!
Cheers,
Leyland 600

Hi Gerald you are right about supplying over the border. When we got the two Traders at Marchbanks they were from County mine was WHH 896 and WHH 7-- .
And remember was it WYLIE of Baldoon stores WIGTOWN they had quite a lot of fairly new Traders on the lime, never have seen any photos of them beige and light
brown I think from memory, they all came from County to. Eddie.
