Bewick:
Here’s a shot of my old marra Harry’s (RIP) Scanias,by this time he’d started buying decent motors A true “old fashioned” Haulier from W.■■■■■■■ which they don’t produce any longer ! Cheers Bewick.
Nice pic Don remember both of these one was driven by Gordon Thompson and the other by Ian Faulder aka pop rivet now both owner drivers Ian runs a scnia and Gordon runs a volvo
When I first came across Gordy he would be about 9 or 10 and was with HT in their Tilt cab Reiver, used to come across them at all times of day and night between Kendal and London and used to stay in the same digs at London Colney with HT.I think you are mixing me up with Donny Bewick frae Plumbland eh! Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis
no was not getting you mixed with Donny,
Could anyone tell me anything about Flint Transport? I think they were based around the Appelby area somewhere.I recall them having a 6 wheeled Volvo F86 flatbed rigid on contract and in the livery of animal feed manufacturers Barkers & Lee Smith in the 70’s
Leyland600:
Hi Tankerman, Yes I knew Jimmy Mounsey and his brother Joe quite well, Jim drove for Billy Pattinson from Plumbland on a Leyland Comet artic flat with 4 in line trailer then later on one of Patty,s tankers.
Cheers Leyland 600.
PS are you keeping those BRH letters polished ■■
Hi Gerald,
That’s the Jim Mounsey I was thinking about, he used to backload Dobane from Stanlow after coming down and tipping a load somewhere from Marchon.
I used to let him load in front of me so he could get back home. I would then run to a cafe just off the junction by the Tickled Trout and park up to get a lift the ten miles home. The day after I would tip Marchon and run back to the same place to park up again. Two nights out for a Whitehaven from Stanlow was the norm. Jim drove for Patty in those days, it would be the early 70’s. I had a Handyman and was envious of Jim’s Scania.
What was the firm called who ran molten sulphur to Marchon from a small dock nearby (maybe Workington) I think they could have been west ■■■■■■■■■■ farmers, brown tankers if I remember.
Yes the BRH letters are nicely polished and I was talking to a driver the other day who drove the motor they are from and he said it’s biggest drawback was the blind spot at the side of the windscreen.
Yeah I drove for west ■■■■■■■■■■ by products on sulphur tanks we used to lead out of ■■■■■■■■ storage on workington docks five loads per shift a great little number. happy days!!
Hi Pete, if you had walked a little further on past Roy Hetherington, house you would have come to Paul Wardle’s cottage who ran the well known ERF four wheeler which he sold about five years ago but still takes part in rallies with his little red Morris 1,000 van. Also on the corner at Westlinton facing north the new housing estate west side was the former yard of John Johnston’s “Midnight Transport” who ran a number of classic Leyland six and eight wheelers in their day on livestock, timber and British Gypsum. One mile further north at Sandysike crossroads turn left and you would have passed Jos Millican (Penton) Ltd yard now John Millar Transport and a little further on R&J Monkhouse’s yard.
Cheers, Leyland 600

Hi Leyland 600,i stopped in pub/b+b on crossroads with A7,only few week ago but can’t remember the name!,had a walk to old railway station and a nice stroll up the former waverley route,Jos Millican, did he run dark blue ERF’s and had depot in Liverpool or was that Cannons?
Hi Pete, I know where you stayed at Westlinton, yes Jos Millican ran many ERFs mostly on timber haulage pulpwood to Bowaters at Ellesmere Port from the borders forests, I am not sure about them having a Liverpool office.
Cheers. Leyland 600

Pretty sure he spells" Hodgson" without the E, so unlikely?
