I would say a 150LX Or a 2 Stroke, I was told by one of their drivers they had LWs in the S18s. If my memmorie is right the S 20 came out in 1958/59, the 150s were in production then. Regards Larry

hiya,
Whoa the Gardner 150 all that power eh, just glad I spent most of my formative years punching Leyland, AEC and Bristol about, those 150s as dependable as the proverbial Swiss watch but bloody awful when running at max weight. Tin hat on.

I must say Dennis in my opinion a Foden, was a far superior vehicle to an Atkinson, if they had the same gearbox, axles, engine!

The last 8 words of your post demolishes your opinion then “george”!!! I never would have touched a Foden with a 20 ft. barge pole when I was buying premium British built tractor units.Cheers Dennis.

Nonsense Dennis a Foden S80 with a Gardner 240 is a much better value for money vehicle then a Atkinson with a Gardner 240. Why did Robson’s buy such a large fleet of Fodens?

Because Stan was loyal and stuck in the past, however I don’t think they ran many 240 LXB’s Fodens. Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Never had a Foden as “my motor” so haven’t a clue to their worth the only one I ever moved was a half cab thing owned by F F Robinson I moved that about 200 yards in the yard of ICI Cricklewood to free the bay and let me back on the driver/shunter who i knew quite well always went for his breakfast while being tipped and was OK with me moving it there’s a but here and it’s contrary to what Mr Robinson said about the motors he did say the drivers loved them but according to the shunter and he spoke for trunkers they hated them, and wasn’t they an ugly looking thing and would have been more at home running about in a quarry, or wasn’t it just that there wasn’t room for any hitchhiking crumpet which of course I wouldn’t have pulled up for even though I was single in those days.

How did you manage to keep a straight face typing that last line “H” ? Cheers Dennis.

Canute appear to have a lot of vehicles based in ■■■■■■■ both at Longtown and at Milnthorpe, where do they haul from?

They did get into Bolton Fell peatworks when Murrays lost it, don`t know whether they still are or not

hiya,
Piece of cake Dennis when typing the truth, there is zero facial movement when not speaking with fork tongue and that’s as true I’m riding a bike.

Hello georgeking and pip2209,
Yes, they still haul from Bolton Fell peatworks (taking peat for J Arthur Bowers), but resently, their Longtown Depot seems to be used for ATS Tyre Distribution. Also at the Longtown Depot, their is quite a lot of Canutes DAF XF’s. Also, their was (last time I was along past the depot) some Wilkinsons trailers.

Where do the Milnthorpe based trucks haul from?

They work out of Mainline Industrial Estate, on the site where Libby’s used to be.

i see some people who contribute on this thread think its ok to take pictures that i have put on here and now off my facebook page and repost them elsewhere without even being polite enough to ask first

They are based in Bewicks / WRM’s old depot, who do they haul for?

I think " Canute work out of Mainline Ind Est." is probably a bit misleading, unless Libby’s have started manufacturing again !! I would suggest that Canute “operate” from the site as it is no longer a production site only a warehousing site ! When Libbys were in full production there was a 1000 tons a week leaving the site which I don’t think is the case to-day ! Cheers Dennis.
