That`s got the old grey cells working , “Robroy”. :bulb:

I can remember seeing the 2 Leylands of J. & J. Storey every Friday afternoon on the M 6 in Lancashire , as they headed northbound towards hometown Kirkbride. Always loaded , fully sheeted and roped , so I never saw exactly what cargo they carried.
I think they retired about 20 years ago ,maybe longer than that.

This Leyland Clydesdale was bought new by M.E. Saunders & Sons , Sparkbridge , Ulverston .
Its regular driver was Alan Hornby , who later drove the Volvo F 86 6 wheeler , then progressed onto the boxvan artics.
HEO 367 N ( or the driver :unamused:  ) was nicknamed “The Golden Rail” . A brass plaque was stamped “Golden Rail” and fixed to the cab front panel. I`m not going to reveal the story behind reason why .
Maybe some of his colleagues reading this might remember the story.  :grimacing:

One of their drivers , Ian Cunliffe , bought the Leyland , and it was repainted in the colours shown here. He kindly gave me this photograph.
Ian later replaced the Leyland with successive DAF 1900s , and a Leyland Freighter , reg. no. F 747 HEO , which was 2 years old when I bought from him in 1991.

Im not too sure exactly what type of animals hes intending to transport ,…but looking at the photograph ,…hes nabbed a beaver tail` at the back. :unamused:

I only thought he wanted to transport alpacas ,…but that`s another story . :sunglasses:

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hi “Robthedog” ,
Aye , you are correct. Well ,…beavers are animals !
The Scanias beavertail is either to enable the cattle box to be balanced ( or ballasted  ) to make loading easier ,.......... ..........or its to tip the load ( and the stercus tauri :unamused: ) out at the same time at the destination.
The owner might enlighten us all ,…hopefully .
Other suggestions on the back of a £20 note , please !

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Here’s a couple of Scania’s- Stampers and Armstrongs taken many years ago. regards prattman.

It sure is robthedog! But the reasoning is far simpler than it would seem, I wanted a reshuffle in the yard but my wagon was loaded , the owner of the wagon pictured wanted to leave it somewere handy over Christmas, !

Outside the former Stations depot by the looks of it, or K T Coaches as they are now known.

Hi “Dew” ,
Errrrr,…yes,…and no .
The photograph was taken at the former Staintons coach depot , but Staintons ashes ( K.T. Coaches ) :unamused: are now
based at Crooklands , behind the car sales garage.
Metcalfe Bros. now use the Burton Road garage and premises .

Ill give you half-marks for identifying the photos location.

Ahh that’s where they’ve gone, you often see KT’s coaches abandoned around Kendal, especially up near the Castle Green Hotel.

Was wondering if that was a bit naughty considering coaches are O Licensed like trucks.

Buses are not licensed at all like trucks DEW.

Really? I thought coach operators had to have an O License? Well that explains a lot!

Sorry if I misled you, they do have O licences but the terms are completely different to HGVs.

And I should think Andy will be one of your politest drivers Malc,he was a great lad for us ! Now that looks like a suspect coach to me :open_mouth: Hungarian :astonished: Did have the DAF engine in it ? Cheers Dennis.

Some of the coaches these days look bloody ugly though  Especially some of the Volvo stuff a few years ago.

Not to mention half of them are twice my age it seems, just hidden with a private plate!

IIRC Malc, this is a shot of the last Motor Andy Midd drove at Bewick Transport it was one of a batch of 8 nearly new 113’s I bought from Haydock Commercials in early '91.
