Bit of novelty here from the ■■■■■■■ Steam Gathering

Following-on with the theme from the ■■■■■■■ Steam Gathering , here`s another from the Longtown area.

A Bedford ( CA ? ) undergoing a restoration/rebuild . The handy picnic table is already fitted in place.

Hi Dennis ,
Aye , I most certainly do know Athol :unamused: . I`ll not make any further comment about him. :grimacing: .

Now , exactly when did L.S.f.B. have an Anglo-Saxon language teacher ? :unamused:  Before ,…or after your time ? :grimacing:

Cheers , Anon.

I only knew him via Tommy Stables from Crooklands, who bought a good dog or two off him other than that I didn’t know him from adam so don’t link me to anything good or bad which you may be privvy to. :unamused: Cheers Dennis.

Do you know about the " Wanted,- good sheepdog" advertisement in the Westmorland Gazette many years ago ?
It was supposedly penned (no pun intended  ) by Tommy . If youd like to know the story , Ill tell you.
Tommy used to own the Crooklands (Hotel) 60 years ago , back in the days when it was a farm.

Again ,as for Athol and his wife ,…no comment !

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

“Wanted, good sheep dog, must have excellent night vision” Am I correct CWM.? Cheers Dennis.

Correct !  :grimacing: It was declared " Best advert of the Year" by the farming community .
You must have heard the story,…but I bet that Tommy didn`t tell you why the dog needed good night-time vision. :unamused:
The advertisement created a lot of laughter at Kendal Auction the following Monday, and Tommy suffered a lot of (well-deserved)
humiliation . No-one ever admitted to being responsible to placing the advert , unless you know more.

The outcome was that no more livestock were stolen , or went missing ! :unamused: :grimacing:

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Anybody got any pics of Edgar steel A&B Series ERF units (early 80s) that operated out of what is now Stamper’s yard at Kirkbride, or even KTS and/or John Story (red Leyland 4 wheelers) both from Kirkbride??
