It is typical of the UK to ban the stuff,in Frogland,it is legal, and common as buying a pint of milk,at any service station or truck stop.
You would think there would be a black market for this,to sell to UK drivers, who have a human right to protect themselves from low lifes and pond scum, may ask Limeyphil to fill his trailer with some CS gas.
In the Truck and Driver mag,a writer is on about gas attacks in europe, but a few years ago,a poster to TN,who had a significant amount of medical knowledge, was sure, the gas used to rob drivers, and knock you out, does not exist, and if it did the chemical elements would have to be in such a larger scale, which would not be possible to carry around, without drawing attention to the law.
My opinion is, the driver has spent his bosses running money at a ladies establishment, and too embarassed to say what happened,in case the wife or girl friend found out.
A father and son,had their pockets cut open by scissors, while robbed outside their own firms depot in Portugal, they soon had their running money reinstated.

I suggest you google ‘section 3, criminal law act’ although only valid in England and Wales, you would see that using a weapon against someone is legal so long as you can prove in a court of law that it was ‘reasonable in the circumstances’.
The possession of CS gas which is deemed an offenssive weapon in this country is an offence in itself, the only reason you could possibly have to be in possession of it is to cause harm to someone thus it’s not for protection, it’s there with a premeditated intent.
Why fork out for CS anyway, a can of pledge or windscreen cleaner is equally effective, perfectly legal and is unlikely to effect you as well when you use it.
Is a base ball bat legal,as long as you have the ball in the cab?
Although you’d probably be released without charge, chances are you’d still be open for arrest on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. Why would a lorry driver carry baseball equipment with him? Although you could say you play a team sport on your own when you’re parked up, the officer would have sufficient grounds to nick you. Why would you want to leave yourself open to the possibility of spending several hours in a cell, being interviewed etc… (and before anyone comes on here stating otherwise, the arrest would be perfectly legal). A large mag-light would be a lot easier to explain away.
Anyway, why would anyone use a weapon that could possibly be snatched from them and used against them?
Be very careful in Europe with having CS gas in your cab, in Holland is it classified the same as a firearm, and without a license they can lock you up for between 4 and 6 years on Her Majesty cost in the Orange Hotel, and/or a fine between € 4.700,- and € 19.000,-
Maglites with more than 3 large batteries are also classified as a weapon.
Wasp-killer or a fire extinguisher does an splendid job in emergency.
A fire extinguisher is the tool for the job a face full of extinguisher powder will do it. But all of these things are no use if you have already been gassed.

so what you’re saying is, there’s actually no need for buying the gas anyway, as nobody ever gets gassed and all who claim so have just lost their running money in the red light district of their choice.
If you think the trucks are having a hard time with being gassed spare a thought for caravan/motorhomes over there. Loads of them being done including a few MotoGP and World SBK folk between rounds.
Yeah, defo a torch. If it gets nasty it gets down to business!

Yep…tried that and shot the flippin dog
wd40 is a goodun too,and it has the added advantage that you can beat the granny out of your would be thieving no good pond life cos they wont be able to see anything if you get them full in the face,it reacts with the water in the eye and floats on top of it therefore blinding them until they can"wash it out with copious amounts of water" well thats what the tremcard says! but then again that aint gonna worry you. oh and guess whats in the door pocket of my truck?? …yes officer its to lubricate parts of the truck and trailer…honest!!
Easy to bring in to the uk,I stuff a can down my undies, they don’t check that, hope it is a foxy female officer that does,Ben Dover.

Most Finnish drivers who I know that have been “gassed” are heavy drinkers so it’s quite easy for robbers to clean the cab when they are chemically sleeping. They don’t usually have any running money from the company so they were actually robbed, phones, credit cards, computers etc., it was not an excuse.
Strapping the cab doors,is a risk,in case of a fire, there is no time to escape.

That is funny V8Lenny, much the same thing happens here and on the European mainland.
I love this thread, it comes around at least once a year and it brings out highly trained medical men who are amazed at the skill of ■■■■■ anaesthetists
We all take smoke detectors for granted these days, and carbon monoxide detectors, but is there a detector for gasses like those used to gas us in our cabs as we sleep? This trend of getting access to the cab while the driver is put to sleep is getting more commonplace it seems.

Please tell me that you are joking?

Don’t worry you will doubtless hear it some more I would say you are been fibbed too.
Don Madge:
Hi,A debate on gassing went on for many months on a few of the motorhome forums and things got a bit heated at times.
In the end somebody contacted the Royal College of Anaesthetists and this was their reply.
Thank you for your enquiry. I would like to inform you that you are not the first enquirer with this question. Professor Hatch, our Clinical Advisor, has given the following previous comments:
"I can give you a categorical assurance that it would not be possible to render someone unconscious with ether without their knowledge, even if they were sleeping at the time. Ether is an extremely pungent agent and a relatively weak anaesthetic by modern standards and has a very irritant affect of the air passages, causing coughing and sometimes vomiting. It takes some time to reach unconsciousness, even if given by direct application to the face on a rag, and the concentration needed by some sort of spray into a room would be enormous. The smell hangs around for days and would be obvious to anyone the next day.
There are much more powerful agents around now, some of which are almost odourless. However, these would be unlikely to be able to achieve the effect you describe, and the cost would be huge enough to deter any thief unless he was after the crown jewels. The only practicable agent is probably the one used by the Russians in the Moscow siege - I advised the BBC on their programme about this. The general feeling is that they used an agent which is not available outside the KGB!
Finally, unsupervised anaesthesia, which is what we are really talking about is very dangerous. In the Moscow siege about 20% of victims died from asphyxia, because their airways were unprotected. If the reports you talk about are true I would have expected a significant number of deaths or cases of serious brain damage to have been reported."
I hope this information is helpful to you.

At a guess these folks know more than me about gassing so will side with them.
Well thats a relief then. I had read about an incident like this on TruckPol’s website. Now I have read that, I can sleep easy
