Well thats a relief then. I had read about an incident like this on TruckPol’s website. Now I have read that, I can sleep easy
I didnt read that, I read this one.
Truckpol has stated that gas attacks on unsuspecting haulage and couriers in Europe are a myth, despite claims that the problem is worsening. DC Alan Soames, head of the Crime Intelligence Unit of Truckpol, claims that there is no evidence to suggest that sleeping drivers are being gassed so that thieves can make off with the goods they are delivering.
The statement comes amidst claims by a Europe Logistics subcontractor who claims that he still suffers side effects from a gas attack that allowed two illegal Iraqi immigrants to hide away in his lorry. He faces a fine of £2,000 per stowaway if found guilty of not carrying out the correct checks and safety precautions.
DC Soames believes embarassment has been the main factor in the claims, stating “There has been no medical proof so far. [European Law Enforcement Agency] Europol has done some research and were of the same opinion that they didn’t believe it’s actually happening.”
The statement has been met with outrage by some drivers and same day couriers, who claim the problems are becoming more widespread in Europe and that Truckpol are simply burying their heads in the sand.
This may have been the article you read, but you missed one very important word.
