Hi Yorkie007 and all,
I took my apprenticeship with Crows as a diesel mechanic when they was located in Barking in the mid 70’s before they moved to Silvertown, I was known as ‘Muscles’, not many people knew my real name lol.
I knew Yorkie and worked on his vehicles many a time, he was one of the continental drivers iirc, Ah the good ol days .
The chap standing outside the office block at the Silvertown site is ‘Nobby Clark’, i can’t make out who the 2 mechanics are on the right of the pic with their backs to us, i think the guy who’s head you can see through the office winow is Burt, last name evades me atm, i worked with Len mulley, he was indeed a good sign writer and much of his work was freehand although tranfers was used sometimes, his stick is a “dolly” (little leather ball at the end) it was used for steadying his hand with the freehand stuff.
It’s nice to see the pics of the units and trailers along with some drivers and fitters i recognise, brings back some great memeories of some good times, The pub just along the road at the Silvertown site was also very handy during dinner breaks, lol.
Thanks for sharing, Be Lucky.
Jeff.
