Cretin.

Silver_Surfer:
Someone said we should have kept our lanes on to the m50 then he’d of let me in, yeah right!!!

Probably one of those chaps who leaves you hanging after you’ve moved to lane 2 to let him on the motorway.

What if he decided he wanted to get back on the m5 north as I wanted the m50? I’m in the wrong and have to go round again…

Rob agrees with me & that’s enough for me so there you go. Like he says would you fail your test if getting on the m50 from the left lane on that slip, my money bets on yes.

:open_mouth: Rare though it is :stuck_out_tongue: I have been known to be wrong on occasions.

I used to do the same as you Silver Surfer and stick in the r/h lane there and get left hanging out to dry by people “undertaking” me, but then I reasoned that their actions were no different to mine when coming south down the A1 to go onto the M18 south where it was the accepted norm to use both lanes to go onto the M18.

THAT is another junction that is/was a royal pain in the arse. Again, HC rules dictate that you enter in the right hand lane if turning right but the approaches are all unmarked (except for M18E to A1N) so used to be a free for all with vehicles undertaking you on your nearside when turning right. I’ve not been round that way for a long time but it sounds like it’s been “fixed” from what you say - and not before time either.

Yeah it’s changed Rob. There are three marked up lanes as you approach the r/about. Lane one marked to turn left/east and lanes two and three for Right/west onto M18. Doesn’t stop the poor lambs getting confused though!

There are a lot of junctions that are badly labelled where people use them incorrectly but in a way that with a little paint, they’d be correct and it would be safer.
M60 from Stockport, come off at Denton Island and head for the M67, only the far right lane on the slip road, but most people (not me) use both right lanes, this then means they’re in the wrong lane on the roundabout. BUT a little bit of paint and you could use both lanes with ease and it’d be safer and quicker for all involved.

A5(W) where it crossed the A38 roundabout, tells you to use the outside lane only for the A5(W), most people will blast up your inside, on the roundabout you actually end up with 2 lanes for the A5, which then merge into 1 lane as you join the A5 - it would be safer if you could use both the middle and the right lane on the approach and then people would be passing on your right instead of on your left.

They may be in the wrong, but the road markings could easily be changed to make it correct and this would make it safer.

Agreed. The one that ■■■■■■ me off the most is Elland Rd on the M621 coming from the M1. There are no markings on the approach or roundabout itself, but they all come flying down the inside to turn right through the tunnel. I’ve had a few near misses there and am extra vigilant now. In fact I got so ■■■■■■ off with it that I wrote to Leeds CC Highways dept asking them to do something about it. I don’t know if it’s since been fixed as it’s on the wrong side of Leeds from where I live and haven’t been that way recently.

Another bad one is the 627M coming out of Manchester to the M62. Right hand lane (out of 3) only for the M62E which then splits into 2 lanes on the roundabout itself, but does anyone take any notice? Nope. They just carve straight across the lane divider as you get on the roundabout. Very bad design and it would’ve worked perfectly if they’d made both lane 2 and 3 for A627MN/M62E M62E respectively and painted the lane lines on the roundabout to match.

Yep, agree 100%… The last 1 - A627(M) towards M62 is also a good place to view on streetview, there’s another ‘google car’ in the pic - streetview where the sign is telling you which lane to go in, then look backwards :grimacing:

Maybe the sign for the wide-load bay foxes them.

Personally, I go in the right hand lane to try to avoid impeding traffic from Strensham rejoining the M5 southbound.

I’m really not 100% what the markings painted on the road are but, in the absence of any, the flour tanker is definitely in the wrong. The joining slip back on to the M5 is two lane so in the normal course of events fast traffic could join the roundabout in the outside lane for a straight on exit to the outside lane of the M5 joining slip. Any traffic doing this coild find themselves getting side-swiped by the flour tanker turning right who would be in the wrong.

Try the new road layout on the M6 J44 roundabout. That’s comedy watching the disasters waiting to happen.

Similarly the roundabout into Wrexham off the A483 northbound, both lanes marked town centre. All the cars go up the right hand lane then get exited when you follow the lines round and up their inside.

Long time since I’ve been down M5 but if I recall right there are 2 big arrows pointing straight on for the approach to the roundabout for both lanes (with chevrons on one side - which you can cross if need be) badly marked junction in my opinion!
