Crap food at truck stops/transport cafes

robroy:
Doug’s Diner Penrith. Excellent food, reasonable priced.
.

Doug’s dinners crap mate; try the red rooster penrith; its part of the same building as the Texaco petrol station.
That’s the first petrol station you will see coming into Penrith off the M6

You can’t just write it off as ‘crap’ mate :unamused: it’s all down to opinion.
I have one meal a week there, and have never had a bad one, and I don’t eat crap food by any means, in fact I’m a right fussy ■■■■.
As for Red Rooster, yeh that’s also good, but where do you park now that Davidson’s garage has gone.

Yes he can. He can do what he likes. And if you want to argue he’ll jab a finger in your eye. Hard as nails is boss and er er er sorry I mean gherkins. And don’t forget he lives just over the big hill from you. Be afraid.

I even went to the trouble of making a hot water heat exchange unit that runs off of the air from the heater matrix for a shower.
Got hot water in a bottle alright but never got the thing to work as a gravity feed shower unit that runs a shower try on the cat walk all feed off of a cold feed tank. Dam tank kept leaking all the time when under pressure

A 24v marine grade pressure switch could solve your supply problem & you wouldn’t need gravity feed

Lockerbie Truckstop has some decent food and they also do salads for those wanting them. Even at 1am in the morning which is usually when I eat there the food is decent.

Stock yard
Red lion
Bromsgrove
You can also find midweek vfm in some pubs.

Quality wise, forgetting prices

Stockyard
Carlisle Stobrat Truckstop
Orwell Crossing (Apart from a few bad ones when they claimed “We ran out of stock and haad to purchase burgers from an alternative supplier” which tasted like ■■■■. The other one was the cold breakfast buffet)

Pleased to see the Stockyard coming up top still, been a few years since I was last up there (07 - 08) but it was always my favourite, nice grub (carvery) and the free pint with parking, can’t fault it

Thruxton:
Had some good food at Ashford International Truckstop

Had lunch today there, not the cheapest I’ve ever had but imo it was proper restaurant quality food. Highly recommended.

Prees Heath A41/A49 Shropshire.

Midway Truckstop.

Lynn,s Raven Truckstop.

Both old established Cafes with plenty choice at reasonable prices.

Stobrat Rugby not bad either, just off there in a mo for Cheese & Onion omelette with Chips and Peas £6 but always freshly cooked and tasty.

May I add Colsterworth for the breakfasts, Lockerbie truckstop, Penrith Truckstop and even though it’s not a truckstop as such The Worlds End pub in Tilbury does great food.

+1for raven cafe and colsterworth.
i also like the food at strensham and pont abraham.

J.38 Tebay usually has decent grub, facilities are clean and staff friendly too whenever I’ve been in there.

Is colsterworth the old ok diner silver thingy still  last time i went in it had only just opened …

Yes…it is.

Radar19:
Gloucster has some great food. I spent the night at one tiny place in Swaffem near Norwich, £20 does your parking, a massive plate of whatever is on the menu, I had gammon and it was wonderful plus you get 24 hour access to a shower that is lovely to use.

Heathside bar and grill, on the a47? If so, I will second that. As said, very small, but outstandingly good on all counts.

Someone suggest the idea to me of an on demand pump similar to what they use in the caravans. Would save a lot of work messing around with hose pipes and mounting a tank high up with ratchet straps. Just did not want to spend the money on a pump that was all. But that one at £30.00 ant to bad of a price; still would like it for less though. It states the max running temperate is 43°C which is hot enough for a shower. But if I ever do make that log burning boiler I have been promising myself for years should the right scrap metal come my way. Can’t see it pumping boiling water though.

Not with me there not mate. Not with me there not. But they know me all too well as I have a reputation in the village for all the wrong things so that’s that

^^^^ now that’s a surprise ^^^^
