hello all i had an email this morning from the DVSA “having just passed your Class two it is with great pleasure that we have to inform you that you do not have to do the cpc module 2 and are exempt from it due to grand father rights. You will now have to do the 35 hour module before taking the practical module 4”.
I have informed them that i have never been a professional driver so why can I not do the theory module 2 which is £35 instead of forking out £350 for the course is this a money making scheme of the government or DVSA ?
No wonder there is a shortage of drivers… can i use my driver training towards the hours or any other courses i have done

So you’ve never been a professional driver and don’t think that you need this 35 hours of training? Of course your knowledge of tacho regs, loading and securing, daily walk round checks and defensive and economical driving is good enough that you don’t need to do these?
If anything you’re more in need of doing the 35hrs course than anyone else on here. As for money making, DVSA make very little out of it.

I have extensive knowledge of taco regs and vehicle checks i have done a traffic law course/advanced driver … I’m a police officer …just think its a bit unfair mate
OP - whether or not you have ever been a “professional driver” before is not the issue - it all depends which Categories you previously held on your driving licence before passing Cat. C test. For example, many people, like my missus for instance have NEVER driven a truck but were given entitlement to drive anything upto 7.5 tonnes GVW. These people are ‘entitled’ to do 35 hours DCPC training (whether they need it or not). So if they do want to drive a SMALL truck professionally, they may gain their Driver Qualification Card by attending 35 hours Periodic Training - regardless of experience level.
I’m not sure who exactly wrote to you & informed you that you are not eligible to do Module 2 training BUT you can do Module 4 test once you’ve completed the 35 hours Periodic Training?? As Module 2 & 4 go together for ‘new’ drivers to gain their DQC & allow them to drive professionally. You may well be ineligible - but you would be ineligible to do both Module 2 & 4 - just like my missus would be if she passed Cat. C tomorrow (not likely BTW). So, if, like her you passed your car test prior to 1st Jan.1997 then, like her, you are not permitted to do Module 2 or Module 4 (as ROG said) BUT you must ‘just’ do 35 hours Periodic training to gain your DQC before you drive professionally.
Complicated but straightforward at the same time…more info. is required from OP regarding when you passed your car test.
^^^ Sorry - just re-read post & it says you passed car test in 1983. My bad…this means you cannot do Module 4 but you have to carry out 35 hours Periodic Training.
P.S. IMO your instructor SHOULD be fully aware of all these facts!!!

Sorry mate but first of all who is OP? secondly thanks for the info so I assume I just have to do the 35 hours then i can get my card… I passed my test in 1983
It is a shame that the company you did the C training with did not have their practical C course approved for dcpc as that would have got you a few dcpc hours
