CPC .... a guy in my village pub tonight

… … … said “believe me, it aint happening … watch this space”

This fella is a senior manager at the local bus company, and said CPC for trucks and for buses has been scrapped over the last few days, but has not been made public yet.

I would love to believe this, but in reality don’t . . .

has anyone else heard anything or any whispers ■■?

i doubt it will be scrapped, its money for nothing for them and they wont admit they are wrong, plus if its scrapped they would have a lot of out of pocket drivers looking for refunds.

A bloke in the pub said it, so surely its a fact !

If the DCPC has been scrapped, then “fat mouthy bloke in the pub” will probably not be the first person to hear about it. Personally I’d rather wait for a more reliable source of info.

The fact is, the DCPC is not going to go away. No matter how much wishful thinking in the pub or the Tesco waiting room wants it to go away, it just isn’t.

It’s here, it’s fact, get over it.

Not so much "MMTM"as “BIPTM” ? !

Unfortunately the dcpc is here to stay an will get even more expensive next year. i another module last saturday and as the trainer pointed out the dcpc has got an eu number which basically means it is an eu directive, so sorry but we are stuck with the bull.

Even if we were to leave the EU tomorrow the DCPC would stay, there are too many vested interests in it now and VOSA are quite happy to police it and collect the cash.

Didn’t the PCV Drivers have DCPC a year before us truck drivers?

If I’m right, I guess we’ll know for certain if it will be quashed next year. I can’t see why it would be though, like others have said before, it’s worth more to the authorities in place.

I think you’ll find that all the major bus and coach companies got their own in-house training JAUPT-approved, and have already trained most of their drivers.

Some ‘local bus companies’ may still be deluding themselves, but unless the penny drops soon they’ve got just over a year to got before they go out of business.

@GasGas that sounds about right.

I met a good mate who drives a truck for a small local firm near us and even they have got a ‘in house’ trainer.

Makes absolute sense I would of thought?

The ‘Authorities’ don’t seem to think it’s going away any time soon

Driver CPC — the Traffic Commission’s View
Posted on July 23, 2012 by admin Driver CPC requires all professional bus, coach and lorry drivers to complete a minimum of 35 hours periodic training every five years for as long as they wish to continue to drive professionally.
In a recent article in the transport press, the senior Traffic Commissioner (TC) Beverly Bell stated that employers as well as employees, will find themselves before the TC , if drivers are not compliant with the CPC by Sept 2014 (2013 for passenger vehicle drivers). Bell went on to say “driver training is essentially about investing in your staff”.
Mailshot: The TC expects that operators should be able to show the steps they have taken relating to driver licencing and DCPC qualification. In conjunction with VOSA, there will be a mailshot to an estimated 80,000 operators reminding them of their responsibilities, with a second mailshot in 2014, and dependent upon your action or inaction, you may be called before the TC for an explanation.
Fines: Current levels of fines for failing to comply have been set at up to £1000, if a driver is driving professionally without a DQC (Post Sept 2014), this applies to both operator and driver alike.
Qualification: Some would argue that the DCPC is a driver qualification and is therefore the responsibility of the driver to ensure they hold the DQC qualification. But with the TC’s and VOSA out to ensure that all vocational drivers are qualified, can operators afford not to comply?

I was told by our guy who “teaches” the CPC their is a strong possibility of it being scrapped.
This is due to Germany and France are seeing it forwhat it is…a pain in the arse and not really of any use use to those that are going through t.
He said that if Germany and France pull the plug on it then it will be scrapped euro wide as the whole idea behind it was for it to be fleunt throughout the EU.

I’ll bet anyone, at odds of 10 to 1 in their favour, that it won’t be.

Looking forward to the implementation date, judging by how many here are not ‘gunna do it’ and the thousands of older drivers coming up for retirement there should be a good shortage of licence holders, arguably there has been a driver shortage for many years.

Be interesting to see the reactions of the fleets when they finally realise that the never ending supply of A1 drivers they have been imagining for so long suddenly dries up.

Bring it on.

Aside from that, i get increasingly desperate texts from two agencies i worked for in recent years, they would seem to be increasingly short of drivers…good… :smiling_imp: …maybe the shortage is starting to bite already.

Only time will tell…not that im bothered i have only got to do another 8 hours of “training” and im fully qualified at picking up empty boxes

I am turning work down on a regular basis…Because I don`t want to do it.
I have not decided about the DCPC yet…But when and if I do, a decent ‘bung’ in the right place will see it sorted…Because everyone knows it is complete and utter ■■■■■■■■.

i reckon it will be delayed in a way.
those with grandfather rights at the moment will be given a DCPC card “gratis”. it will run out in September 2019.

There were probably people saying the same when HGV licensing was about to come in.

It won’t be delayed, or abandoned, or watered down. As sure as the sun will come up in the east tomorrow morning, it’s coming and nothing will stop it. Much as anyone would like to believe that it isn’t, it is.

If I thought any different then I wouldn’t have sat the DCPC course myself at my own expense.
