CPC .... a guy in my village pub tonight

My guess is still that when it’s looked at by someone, in real power, that isn’t a careerist attention-seeking TC it will be watered down to something like employers providing 7 hours of classroom based training for any new employee or full implementation will be pushed further back.

I think JAUPT will carry the can for the shambolic manner it’s been transposed into UK law and a certain TC as with every further press release of threats they issue the more they take ownership of it.

One key point it there’s a different political party in government than when it was originally conceived. Unlike Home Information Packs which were quietly forgotten about, this all comes from the EU law so people say it’s different. However, remember when the DSA spent millions building test centres with enough space to do emergency stops off-road as the EU said they had to be done at 50kmh which on the public highway would be breaking the 30mph limit by 1mph. I seem to recall it all ended when someone finally pointed out it was mental.

Another issue is they’ve had to introduce this legally in a very tricky and sneaky manner and I think it’s the government denying a licence holder the option to drive that’s acting illegally rather than the driver without a CPC.

Take when they took C1 and B+E categories of new licence holders in '97, if they didn’t think it was safe for people to drive these categories without additional training and examination why didn’t they remove it from people that passed before '97? The reason is that in UK law they simply cannot remove acquired rights like that and the way they’ve framed the DCPC legislation attempts to circumvent this but legally has not yet been tested.

Its not going away, too many vested interests. Most trades have a similar thing going.CORGI for gas fitters and there is a pointless hygiene certificate for caterers.Driving instructors were also hit with new legislation(taxes).

Speaking as somebody who trained as a chef when he left school, I can tell you that the hygiene certificate for caterers is only pointless if you don’t mind going for something to eat, and then spending the next three days squirting rusty water out of your arse.

Similarly the CORGI certificate is only pointless if you don’t mind having your house explode because Tom, ■■■■ or Harry has bought a blowtorch on ebay and decided to put an advert in the local rag offering boiler repair work.

Well Harry I trained as a baker when I left school.I could not believe what passed as normal trade standards, some say that hygiene was invented in the 1950s.No amount of training or pointless certificates would change them .A dirty zb is a dirty zb with or without a “qualification”.My father was a carpet fitter it was normal practice to switch off the gas then seperate the pipe work before making a small hole in the carpet and putting the gas fitting together again. You would check for a leak with a lighter ,most folk smoked in those days.I know that the hygiene cert .is just like the DCPC rubbish I dont know about CORGI .

After the goverment have spent all that money on it its not gunna happen. They make money from it think about it

i reckon it will be delayed in a way.
those with grandfather rights at the moment will be given a DCPC card “gratis”. it will run out in September 2019.

There were probably people saying the same when HGV licensing was about to come in.

It won’t be delayed, or abandoned, or watered down. As sure as the sun will come up in the east tomorrow morning, it’s coming and nothing will stop it. Much as anyone would like to believe that it isn’t, it is.

If I thought any different then I wouldn’t have sat the DCPC course myself at my own expense.

there were people saying just that when hgv licencing came in. and they didn’t need to take a test, they had grandfather rights. all they had to do is sign to say they had been driving hgvs for reasonable length of time.

Honestly Phil, you are going to have to do the DCPC if you want to carry on driving. No ifs, no buts, it just isn’t going to go away.

i would like to see this guy in the pub, i’d wind him right up by agreeing with him, then adding a bit :imp: .
it would be done in such a way that he’d really think he’d had an official DfT meeting.

As long as im not paying for it when it comes i welcome it (my boss paying  ) push come to shove being unemployed il happily pay for it as be lots of jobs for so who have it when people retire or refuse to get it

yes its bollox and teaching the old boys to ■■■■ eggs but still helps the new generation who getting through net into industry with there 1st few steps.

I’ve spoke and watched alot guys in places iv been over years and some cant do basic stuff like reverse under canopy in big open yard just keep truck straight to get tipped 5-6 attempts later almost there then open his curtian only to have half load 13 pallets but loaded down 1 side of trailer so looked like 26 pallets until you look closer not only this it was all rice so no exactly light stuff and was all slanted over unsecured. This guy was not a young or old id say late 30s and claimed to be driving for number of years <<<<< scenes like that what has made courses that teaches you to ■■■■ eggs enforced on every one els. its the small majority of drivers that over years has ■■■■■■ it up for every one els. The list goes on but think more down to drivers just getting lazy. :imp:

On the bright side there’s courses like ADR that some people dont have that counts towards dcpc there for would benefit yourself, employer or widing your choices for a better company.

Oh and this day and age with better maps and improved sat navs with bridge hights why is it some driver can still drive into a rail way bridge ■■?

Theres a guy works down my Chip Shop swears he’s Elvis, should i believe him?

It won’t go away! It’s a tax, and we all got to ■■■■ it up every 5 years! Or who’s to say maybe every year in the future if it raises enough funds!

And to all the newbies! The Dcpc won’t improve your reversing skills in any way!
In fact it will not improve anything except the coffers of HM government or the EU bailout fund! :grimacing:

I was told by our guy who “teaches” the CPC their is a strong possibility of it being scrapped.
This is due to Germany and France are seeing it forwhat it is…a pain in the arse and not really of any use use to those that are going through t.
He said that if Germany and France pull the plug on it then it will be scrapped euro wide as the whole idea behind it was for it to be fleunt throughout the EU.

what a load of bull excrement ? I would go so far as to say he needs to use toilet paper instead of a toothbrush

Germany has had it´s Kraftfahrzeugemeister qualification since the early 90s and France has had their own qualification as long as I can remember

do you really thinks that the 2 countries who championed the DCPC and forced it upon the rest of us are really going to turn round and say Oh Dear we got it wrong ? :open_mouth: :unamused:

Very reminiscent of arguments I used to have with people that the European single currency was not viable in the way it was introduced and would eventually tear itself apart.

Not had that argument for a while though…

Well in September 2013 we will all see what happens when it comes in for PCV drivers.

I know quite a few coach and bus drivers who work for tight fisted bosses. The boss won’t pay for it neither will the driver. Many of them are past/at/near retirement age so that’s what they are going to do, jack it in.
More work for us young ones.

I’ve always wondered what would have happened if, back in 2009 when this legislation was introduced, a major petition was started and every driver in the land said “No, I’m not doing it”. Come 2014 there would not have been a driver in the land eligible to drive. The law would have quietly disappeared.

we tried, about 15 people signed it. :unamused:
plenty of people moaned about it though.
