trouble is people in general are too lazy to apply common sense and dont want to see things when it is staring them in the face. they just like to listen to the faceache theorys and the idiot media
No argument from me.
Many have lived in a world where there were almost no fatal viruses or diseases, apart from cancer. Because they were born after polio had been largely controlled, smallpox gone, measles and mumps no longer causing the harm they had previously, when this novel virus came along they couldn`t adjust to it.
Wishful thinking? Inability to adapt? Laziness? Listening to what they want to hear?
I dunno, probably all of that for different cases.
And “common sense” is unfortunately very uncommon.

As someone who clearly has an abundance of common sense from your posts in this and other threads, you will be making sure you get all your covid jabs on time along with any booster jabs coming in the future, as that is the common sense thing to do, trusting your government health experts and scientists. ? You have had both your covid jabs, haven’t you ?
Love the way those who have been jabbed are ridiculed ,.as if something has actually been PROVEN to be correct, rather than perceived theories…especially from those who come out with mad.assed stuff that would be more valid in a Sci fi B movie.
Truth is nobody knows what has, or what is going on with all this, you just go with your gut feeling, make your decisions and choices and stick with them…on either side of the coin.
As I say I don’t doubt that this is being used as a vehicle and an opportunity by those in authority, as an experiment, just to see how far people will conform to stuff, …Some confirm to the letter,.some flatly refuse and believe absolutely nothing they are told,.and some have an open mind and are sat somewhere mid table between the two…as I am.
Those who do form their opinons and filter away the b/s from both sides of the argument have to go with what they think is right, after listening to both sides.
Me personally I formed my own opinions and how I was going to deal with it, I certainly do NOT believe everything I’m told by those in authority on this stuff, but by the same token it’s no surprise that I was definitely NOT influenced by the theories of random blokes who drive trucks for a living, who in real terms know as much (or as little) on this subject than I do.
But hey! …I’ve said all this on here before, but still the same old stuff comes up from both sides of the argument.
LazyDriver:
If you pull enough levers and twist enough knobs it shows that the ‘excess deaths’ in 2020 was around 35k with 20k of them being over 84yo.
Probably so…
Pulling levers and twisting knobs will distort any attempt to try to picture reality.
A bit like saying one can take a true statement and twist the words to mean something else.
The knobs and levers I referred to were mearly isolating a single year, to give an annual figure, not compiling 3 years and presenting them as a comparison to previous yearly figures. Then understanding the breakdown in terms of age groups, as stated ‘older people are most at risk’. Also, using governments own figures, the average age for people dying is 82yo.The average age of people dying with covid is 84yo.
Finally, I looked at the government page for Covid testing. They are carrying out 1,120,000 tests daily now. Back at the first lockdown they stuggled to perform 11,000 tests. By using numbers of positive tests rather than a percentage of tests is plain ludicrous, and appears to be only feeding the hysteria.

Care to look at these figures ?
Lots of weeks to choose from, so cherry picking one to prove a point should be easy. statista.com/statistics/113 … and-wales/

What do you think comparing average death age from all causes, with average death age from covid shows?
We know it affects the elderly more than the young.
.
Your final point about looking at absolute figures in testing rather than a percentage might have relevance, if the testing was of a random sample of the population, which it clearly isn’t.

non of these new rules have been thru parliament so can they be enforced? i remember at the start of all this sitting thinking,do i respect boris,i mean will i do what he says? fark orf . Many folk just carried on regardless working throughout such as my barber [shut front door to his salon but back door was open and no appointments just walk in ] local plod far as i know didnt stop anyone ignoring rules either

We’ve known that the elderly are more likely to succumb since the dawn of time, right?

“Since the dawn of time”?
Until recently most deaths were in the young. About the start of this century, half the live births in India didn’t make it to 5years old.
Just under that figure in the USA in the 1800s. In the not so distant past most deaths were before puberty.
The young “succumbed” more than the elderly.

Ok thanks Franglais. Now you are talking about infant mortality due to squalid conditions, malnourishment etc etc. Equally if you are a tightrope walker or a stunt driver, you are more likely to die. All things being equal, an elderly person is less likely to get over the flu and things like that. It isn’t really a huge surprise that the elderly are most prone to covid-19. That has been pretty much accepted for 15 months or more now, so I fail to see what your analysis brings to the table.
Anyway, I see you are replying to yourself now. Had time to go and research have we?

You were only talking of C19?
Sorry, I didn’t realise “the dawn of time” was 2019.
Have I done some research? Yes.
I’m not the only one to do so, and make no apologies for it. You know, trying to check on facts before writing stuff down and all that sort of stuff. I often get it wrong, but hey ho, if anyone corrects me, all well and good.
.
Still no idea at all about the perceived significance of the differing average ages at death for the whole population and those with C19. Anybody care to explain that to me please?
Better wait for Lazy Driver I guess.

Replying to myself? Could have gone back to edit and add to my previous post, but since there have been a few other posts I figured this was a clearer way to explain my previous comment.
Didn’t want to get accused of post editing posts or whatever.

That may have been the case 15 months ago but now after the vaccinations it is younger unvaccinated that are more prone as the hospital cases prove. Very few older people being hospitalised now.

Good to see you live in an area not mostly populated my gullible morons like most other areas of the country or they’d of been queuing up to tell tales on the barber and get him closed down. If nothing else this coronavirus outbreak (not pandemic) has highlighted how many hard of thinking idiots there are in this country, eager to please their masters and turn on their neighbours. Glued to their idiot boxes, lapping up all the hyped nonsense churned out by the main stream media, too scared to go out and catch a cold whilst curtain twitching to see who is going in to next door, itching to ring the facist power corrupt police and tell tales like a good little citizen so they can use their illegal new powers to enter someone’s house without real cause. And listening to LBC today with that wet liberal James O’Brien and that whopper after him, saying it’s too soon to lift the lockdown fully because of a supposed new strain, caller after caller ringing in agreeing with the idiots saying they will still wear a mask regardless, absolute idiots the lot of them. After all this time, the falsely inflated death figures the fact that the majority of people don’t even know they’ve had it these idiots still bang on about it like it’s an actual pandemic that we should be worried about, Jesus there’s no helping them

Ok Franglais, you know best. I guess I could say in the 1800s life expectancy wasn’t anything like it is today, so being elderly in today’s terms would have been relatively rare.
Also, I am not sure if you did mean at the beginning of this century regarding India. Did you mean around 1900? The infant mortality rate would have been quite shocking back then I agree, but then again, like above, the life expectancy would have been sadly very very low. Being elderly by today’s standards virtually non-existent I would imagine.
