Ok Franglais, you know best. I guess I could say in the 1800s life expectancy wasn’t anything like it is today, so being elderly in today’s terms would have been relatively rare.
Also, I am not sure if you did mean at the beginning of this century regarding India. Did you mean around 1900? The infant mortality rate would have been quite shocking back then I agree, but then again, like above, the life expectancy would have been sadly very very low. Being elderly by today’s standards virtually non-existent I would imagine.

The age of people dying with covid, in 2020 (not cherry picked, but using age old interpretations of statistics) has relevance as an understanding of who and where you should stick these jabs. (purposely leaving an opportunity… )
Once all the high risk, as determined by such figures, have been offered these jabs, the world and his wife should be offered but not coreced in to participating if they so wish.
The latest I’ve seen is the beloved Mayor of the whole of London, abusing his position once agsin. This time offering a pair of cup final tickets as a prize in a raffle to those who get jabbed. And this nonsense about ‘double jabbed’ being allowed out of isolation with tests■■? Surely the baseline is your allowed out if you test negative, the fact that you have been jabbed has no relevance. It’s just a punitive action designed to corece people into the experiment.

In terms of the relative likelihood of surviving a viral infection (in the population), a child that died years before has little relevance because that child is already dead through whatever reason it was, be it through (or lack of) sanitation, innoculation, nourishment etc etc.
I know how averages work btw. At least I didn’t try to factorise ZERO. Facepalm.
Given that most likely quite a few youths died after 5 (in the times and places you talk of) and also that people continued to die young even after this, I would stand by my claim that few would have reached an age that we would consider elderly today and those in the upper echilons of age (whatever that was), would have been fairly prone to succumbing to a viral infection such as flu or Covid-19. I expect that those alive would have a fair idea that such a person falling seriously ill would most likely end one way. Does that make my position any clearer?
