I started at the Banbury depot first driving a Badger then transfered up to Coventry where i had a Lynx, later when the loads started to get heavier they sent a Buffalo up from Banbury and because i had been there the longest i got it,when London Brick took us over i had the last F86 but the first to be sprayed brown and white the next one we got at Cov was the F7 day cab, which upset Ernie because the rest of the F7’s they got were all sleeper cabs that where based at Banbury

Good pics John, how did you manage to get a Buffalo, were you based at Banbury? for a while, Eddie Carrol was married to my next door neighbour who later went on to live with Mr Pratt. I’m sure you know who I mean.

Thanks for the info John, I always like that throaty sound from the Badgers, can you remember the reg of the Lynx you had, I was there when we had them new!
Keitheric29, I remember that Fiat of Browns, when I was learning for my HGV, Mousley use to put us on pulling tractors out of Banner La, running them down to Livingstone Allpak just behind Watford Gap, police would let you go through the emergency exit in those days, and a 40 ’ single axle, with the axle right on the back.

John ,any idea of the reg or fleet no of the banbury buffalo ,Steve.
Hi Cliff, I think the reg was ■■■996J,i remember it being shut down to about 55mph but we had new seals and opened them back up to about 60+,but made sure we shut them back down if we went down to the Banbury depot because the foreman down there always used to check the revs(think his name was Bob Hunt) I can remember it having a new Mk2 engine fitted at Ford &Slater at Leicester and when I got her back she was good for 60+ but on a visit into Banbury they checked the revs and gave me a right doing although it had a Ford & Slater seal on the pump, they shut it down to 54mph that’s when it started to crack bell housings so they shut it down to 45mph (which was no good to man nor beast)I I still think the engine should have had a turbo fitted as i’m sure the Mk2 Lynx was fitted with a turbo as it was a different engine design (fixed head I think) as was the Mk2 Buffalo

Cheers John ,only asked as i have a B/W photo of XWL927K fleet no 35 taken in Southampton years ago when it was new.i remember the driver saying what the hell do you want to take picture of a lorry for .im glad i did ,steve.
That would have been one from the Banbury depot,we only had the one at Coventry, there was one that used to run up from Banbury ever day and load squash courts out of Longford Coventry (could never see the point of that when we were the other side of town) I can also remember them running to France,Germany and Spain (to the Ford factory in Valencia and back loading with goods for Valour in Birmingham)

■■■ 996J I thing was Rodney Rowe’s from new , we had 995, they would only do 62mph from new and I was with Alistair Stewart when he use to do holiday cover, he blew 2 of them up before they were 12 months old, they did have the fixed head 500 in them, it was a pleasure to have a Lynx after freezing your whatsit’s off in them Albion’s. Cliff
The only time I drove an Albion was if we had to leave our unit down in Banbury for a service and they would give us one to get home in (think it was an old Larch Lap /Aton unit with a Scammell coupling)it was a punishment motor, was Ted Redsull at Cov when you were there?

john ,not something i can do ,ill get my mate bubbs to post it for me ,watch this space ,Steve.
John, there’s some cracking photo’s there mate, I gave a lift to one of Bernards drivers from Dover to my house, and Bernard came out to pick him up, can’t remember his name though, what engines were in the TM’s?, you should put these on the middle east thread John, can’t make out the name on the White and Silver, Scanny and Volvo? Finally was the Spanish Dodge an ex BRS car transporter? So Lamberts would that be Mick Lambert from Stoneliegh?
Cheers Cliff, the TM’s had the V8,s in them when Malc had them (we had 2) but later when it was Curtis-Hillage one of Curtis’s drivers(Fred Brock i think it was)blew the T reg V8 up and they put a ■■■■■■■ in it.The name on the blue Scanny was Josephine (after the wife) and the Volvo was XL70 a limited edition. The Spainish Dodge was ex-BRS. Curtis got 6 of them,if i remember right they put 4 on the road and had 2 as spares.Yes it was Mick Lambert and also Mick and Mick Price at Rugby Forwarding

John, yes Ted Redsull was at Cov when I was there, Dave Duckett, Frank Walsh, who left and went to Mortons, Ernie Baylie, Rodney Rowe, Tom Aurbutin ( spelling), I met Mick in Dover one day, I had no Idea he had anything to do with lorries, he came over to me by DFS hadn’t seen him since school, and haven’t seen him since, whats he doing now. My lads were at school with you lad, Bill? , is it.
Ted sticks in my mind, living at Southam Zoo and loving his drink, having bets if he’d turn up on a Monday morning after being on the beer all weekend, used to dread running with him because you’d be in the Bull when you’d finished work,i remember the names of the others thats about all,(the memories not so good now).Mick has been out of transport since 2001 when Rugby Forwarding finished, thats the last time i went over the water,he now owns and runs Stanton Lakes Stoney Stanton (good food and drink).Yes my lads name is Bill
