Course Payments

You have to sing this song as you go around, or it doesn’t count towards your DCPC.

Honestly I only posted this video because of the song,

No really it’s true.

What do you mean she’s an attractive, scantily clad young lady, I never noticed. :open_mouth: [emoji38]

Which one is dozy in the video

If theyre paying you, then in my eyes its by passing your day off…so i would attend, then take monday off ( or my next working day ) but pre warn them…theres nothing they can do…except to cancel your place, let it run until you need the extra hours…then YOU will have to book it, pay for it, and lose the time off of work…

Isn’t that a bit like throwing the towel in and giving up any hope of fighting for better terms?
We should grateful that we’re maintaining a qualification for your employers, without them paying us properly for it?
I agree limpers are different, but shouldn’t full time workers expect a proper days rate turning up at the firms request/demand?
Going along with whatever the management want, will only ever erode drivers T&C’s…
And if enough of us do it without thinking, the industry will adopt it! :open_mouth:

Hurrah, another day in the service of my employer, and this one’s at the weekend on a reduced rate. :unamused:"

Well chances are if he goes back and says I aren’t attending, he probably won’t get any more money offered, or a "well if you are not willing to keep up with the CPC bye bye… In the real world drivers aren’t going to unite and stand together’ unfortunately half the time it’s like it or lump it…

As I said it’s not ideal

Oh I accept that’s quite possibly the end result, I just have a problem in stripping myself off and bending over! :imp:

I’ve had a letter informing me I am attending a Safe Urban Driving Course, on a Saturday (my days off).

It’s at another depot 28 miles from my normal place of work which would take me an hour each way.

They’ve informed me I will be paid £50, plus £5 meal contribution, plus £0.45/mile diesel for my car.

I’m expected to arrive at 0730 to sign in for an 0800 start, and that it will count towards 7 hours CPC.

So that’s 1 extra hour travel to attend, 30 minutes early to sign in, 7 hours course, 1 extra hour travel to get home = 9 hours 30 minutes on my day off for £55 … equating to £5.79 an hour.

Unbelievable. I’m fuming at the cheek of it.

Thoughts?

you should be paid minimum 1.5 times for Saturday or double bubble. As you are being instructed to ATTEND! They should be paying for your course too! :grimacing: they’re extracting the urine out of you. :unamused:

Drivers often want the same terms as rail workers so as a ex driver turned signaller this is what I would get for training, it would be done on a work day they would pay for travel to the training place and it would all be done in your 8 hour shift time.

Don’t forget to make a manual entree on your tacho to reflect these working hours.

It can be hard to take yeah, just guess it depends on who you work for… we get a basic 8 hours plus traveling… I don’t mind tbh as I do every other Saturday morning so if they want me to go sit in a classroom all day and drink coffee’ instead of driving I can live with that.

Had a word today, was told I was getting a free days CPC. However that’s a by product of the company needing me to attend for FORS accreditation.

I’m now getting my union involved. It’s as much the principle and not being taken for a mug as the actual money itself. I’m not working for less than minimum wage at my wage and that’s that.

If I’m sacked for not attending it’s going to a tribunal, but let’s see what Unite say tomorrow.

Not on.name and shame the slave drivers .

It’s the fluorescent Lycra they force you to wear throughout the day that boils my blood[emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]

Does your company pay for your other required cpc courses, and give you expenses for doing it?

Yes, they’re done on site and on a working day. This course isn’t a CPC course, it’s for FORS and just happens to give a days CPC. It’s not a bonus qualification for me, it’s a legal requirement that they need so their trucks can operate in London. I see it as me subsidising an operating cost of theirs if I’m doing the course for below the minimum wage. I can’t think of any other industry where you’d be treated like that.
