Couldn't make it up

Just seen a womble car having to have a tyre changed by a tyre contractor. If a simple tyre change on a discovery is beyond there capabilities then what really is the point of them?

Discoveries only have a space saver get-yer-home tyre limited to 30 or 40mph, so makes perfect sense to get a van out.

Not the disco’s I’ve seen. Point still stands, why not change it to the space saver and get it to a workshop instead of sitting at the side of the road.
Oh well, it’s only taxpayers money they’re wasting.

health and safety meant they would have to close the road if they change it.

Same applies to lorry drivers.
Once upon a time they all carried a spare and changed them themselves, these days they all just sit on the hard shoulder with the night heater and kettle on waiting for a tyre fitter.

What’s good for the goose…

Its covered in the contract pob. but then most companys contract out for tyres etc .its elf an safety you know

How’d you know they didn’t have 2 punctures?

Because there would have been a full 4 lane closure if they had.

I’ve been told Hatos have been sold off. Rebranding in the New Year.

I know they’re not supposed to change things like tyres for other road users, the Health and Safety excuse is used, but I also believe it’s so they don’t take work from recovery companies. As for their own wheels I think the job reeks with procedures and if it goes wrong full investigation, so if you ain’t followed the procedures they’ve got a prime target for the blame thrower.

As for the point of them? I was very happy to have them around to close a lane so I could get to the nearside of my truck to get it going again without being smeared down down lane 3 of the M40

On the subject of tyres, I was heading West on the M56 this morning (8.30 ish?) and there was a ■■■■ load of cars with flat tyres on the hard shoulder.

Never saw any debris on the road, but must have been for that many to have punctures.

When I worked at a Land Rover dealers from 97-04 not one Land Rover had a space saver tyre so I very much doubt they do now. They have whatever wheel and tyre size is on the vehicle and they used to be attached on a mounting bracket on Discos on the rear door. Why would they have a space saver spare if most of the people who buy them are farmers country types and off roaders and who use them off road?

That might be true for Land Rovers, but I’m sure the nearest most Discos and Freelanders get is mounting the pavement when on the school run.

Just had a look at a disco 3 and theyre full fat tyres.
Will have to find a disco 4 now but i suspect theyre full size too as Steve points out - a spacesaver is no good to you in the middle of a field

Disco’s have full size spares. The disco 3’s and 4’s have it under the back end.

The best 4x4xfar :sunglasses:

Same sort of plant pot that cant change a headlight bulb on an Axor.
Only cost 100 quid for some joker to go and change it.
How bout carrying a spare bulb?

" not my job"
Then you got no job when ten of these a week cost a grand.
Cheaper to employ a Pole who will drive 5 mile with a popped bulb.

Go stack shelves .

I’m on a DHL contract at the moment, and if a bulb pops mid journey, we have to call the office and wait for a call out, this is for ANY bulb, seriously. :open_mouth:

The non profit end of transport has some quality staff, my favourite for this week was the driver who wanted written confirmation from the management that the vehicle was taxed as the rules have changed regarding paper disks.
