Couldn't make it up

Same sort of plant pot that cant change a headlight bulb on an Axor.
Only cost 100 quid for some joker to go and change it.
How bout carrying a spare bulb?

" not my job"
Then you got no job when ten of these a week cost a grand.
Cheaper to employ a Pole who will drive 5 mile with a popped bulb.

Go stack shelves .

The non profit end of transport has some quality staff, my favourite for this week was the driver who wanted written confirmation from the management that the vehicle was taxed as the rules have changed regarding paper disks.

That’s just silly when you can check online.

And insurance.

no your just silly or sad!

Or some fitter over tightened the wheel nut with his high powered impact gun and they could nut undo the nuts with the standard beaker bar…

Probably this. Alloy wheels can be a right lady dog to get undone.

As for all the call outs for bulbs and not changing wheels etc this is why most of my driving career has been working for foreign companies! Where we are expected to use some initiative and expected if we have a problem to do everything you can to solve it before they call out anyone.

Great stuff. I know some will think its mad but I like working this way

I had to sign a form the other week for spreading grit on the yard, to show I had been trained before I could do it.

Safe to say changing a wheel is out of the question, i’ll be putting the kettle on and making a brew whilst the fitter comes out. I suspect this would be the recommended ‘safe system of work’ anyway. The firms made their bed, they can lie in it!!

Maybe he could not be arsed and can afford to get someone else to do it for him.

beanconter job, beancounter company, beancounter rules…the biggest problem is,that the beancounters in question can actually believe what they do is correct.(usually after spouting 3 hours of gobstick h/s guff to try and justify it)…just complete plebs for anyone working like that.

I’m on a DHL contract at the moment, and if a bulb pops mid journey, we have to call the office and wait for a call out, this is for ANY bulb, seriously. :open_mouth:

We used to be allowed to change headlight bulbs in the yard, that stopped when the foreigners were changing the angle of the beam rather than undoing the retaining brackets.

We’re now only allowed to change indicator bulbs and tail lights on unit and trailer.

If in the yard the call the on call fitter out, if on the road ‘local’ one of our fitters will come to you.

If however you are out like I was for 3 days and 2 nights they send out a contactor. I have driven in the past to a garage in Evesham who changed one for free for me once but under no circumstances are we allowed to change them on the road.

Don’t know why

looking at the intelligence of SOME drivers, Would you wanna risk driving the truck after they’ve changed a wheel :open_mouth:

There is a reason why big firms feel although they have to do it though…to protect themselves from the no win no fee personal injury parasites and the employees that use them. You can bet your bottom dollar that although working in such a way seems daft, it pays for itself.

I badly trapped my finger between some cages in a previous job and I had people encouraging me to claim compo. It was just an accident, but that’s the society we live in and why certain firms would feel the need to risk assess pulling a cage and make you sign to say you understand safe procedure.

I’m not bothered though, I ain’t trying to impress anybody with my DIY prowess. The jobs 5 mins from my house, I turn up do as they wish and collect my pay.

your quite right, though its just a sad reflection on the way the haulage industry has turned out…most of the tosco type mobs all work from the same degrading script. you daren’t show any initiative just work as computer says…degrading and pathetic if you are used to previous years.guys I talk to and mention some of the posts on here just do not believe me and think im taking the micky, that in itself would be amusing if it wasn’t such a sad fact.i don’t think drivers should still be changing wheels on the motorway, but basic get you home repair stuff outwith the beancounter brigade should be encouraged. last wheel I changed in france I got £100 bung to save me calling out the tyrefrogs, plus as I was on trip money,it saved me waiting for hours wondering when they would show.
